The White House's Super Christian Christmas Card

This morning on "The View," Barbara Walters displayed the Christmas card she recently received from the White House. She said it was the most religious White House Christmas card in her memory. The card included explicit religious references beyond just a bible verse.

The super-Christian card features a verse from Nehemiah (Old Testament, it should be noted):

You alone are the LORD.
You made the heavens, even the highest heavens,
and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it,
the seas and all that is in them.
You give life to everything,
and the multitudes of heaven worship you.
NEHEMIAH 9:6 (NIV)

But whereas in previous years the President and the First Lady opted for messages of happiness, goodwill, and peace, this year featured the following closer:

May the joy of all creation fill your heart this blessed season 2007.

It is then signed by both George and Laura Bush.

The card was financed by the Republican National Committee.

U.S. Presidents are elected to be a president of all Americans, no matter what a citizen's roots, ethnicity, or religion.

If Barbara Walters called the card "the most religious", I would suggest that its most salient feature is that it is the most offensive Presidential Christmas card I've ever seen.

Christmas is a celebration of Christ (who was God in the flesh).

I may not like Bush's politics, but as a christian, I appreciate his humility & praise for God.

Also, I'm excited that christians like Gore, Clinton, and Obama are stepping up. I definately want a Christian president.

“Why are people upset by this?”
It’s a matter or respect.
Millions of Americans, including very religious Christians, know that they have friends and family members who may enjoy only the secular aspects of this ubiquitous holiday. So they send out cards that that say “Season’s Greetings,” or “Happy Holiday,” or even “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,” because they want to include those people in their joy of the season. (That doesn’t preclude them from sending a religious card to Aunt Molly, who they know would appreciate it.)
They show respect for these people they care about. They want to be inclusive. They want to bring joy to their community.
CEOs’ cards to employees, doctors’ cards to patients, service stations’ cards to customers. They’re inclusive too. Those folks know it’s important to be respectful of others – even if it’s solely for economic reasons.
But this administration (I don’t believe for a minute that our idiot president had anything to do with this) decided to say “screw you” to many millions of Americans by sending out an uber-religious Christmas card for some perverse political reason. They knew it would piss off a large segment of society, but they don’t care about the American community. Just what they can get out of it. No respect.

TO: Time for a Change December 13, 2007

If it wasn't for smart President Thomas Jefferson in 1800's with the Louisiana Purchase to obtain new territory in the West you ,I repeat, you would not be in the West. The population problem would be terrible. Our American security harmed. No one is saying we should do this with all laws. Good, smart people know when to stop evils when they exist.

Consider the story of the finatical Puritans who disliked the behavior of the Quakers and finatically wanted in the end to kill them. If it wasn't for the good people of New England of the early colonial days the Quakers would have been killed. The good people compassionately saved the Quakers lives. You see there are times to change evil and stop it.


You do not know your history. What I presented is our American history and development and the rich heritage given to us.

President Thomas Jefferson once said too that,"Some men treat the Constitution as the Ark of the Covenant to Sacred to be touched. Yet, we must go hand in hand with laws and institutions with progress of the mind."

Some have pointed out that Mr. Bush has quoted the Old Testament. However this is both by design and habit. Most Evangelicals of his ilk are far more comfortable with the OT than the NT. And for the End Timers in particular, the Jewish connection is fundamental to the coming again of the Lord to smite all non believers and raise all those pious sons of bitches like Laura and George, Mamma and Pappa Bush to be with the Lord in Heaven. It's a stretch to believe Cheney will be going with him, but perhaps he will pull some influence. He's got plenty of it here, that's for sure. Giordy
