Christmas is usually a time when controversial nominees for top federal jobs wait for Santa, in the form of the president of the United States, to come down the chimney with their recess appointments.

Maybe not this year. Word is Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), in order to prevent President Bush from handing out those goodies, is now thinking about keeping the Senate in session during the Christmas-New Year's break, which starts at the end of next week and continues until the Senate returns in mid- to late January.

Somewhat off topic but curious nonetheless:

Our government is operating on yet another temporary resolution to fund it. How is it that the so-called richest nation on earth must continually fund itself through emergency spending? Isn't that the same as robbing Peter to pay Paul?

I got my BA when Noah was still around, so would someone please explain it to me?

Mr. Reid,

Preventing recess appointments in this manner is one of the few successful parliamentary flanking maneuvers you have used. And precious few, Mr. Reid.; you need to start exercising your power.

Next, start making the minority Senators actually stand and talk to carry a filibuster. It is really, really lame when they merely say "we filibuster", and then you take legislation off the table. Make them talk, and that way the majority party won't *need* to come up with 60 votes to "override" the filibuster. The filibuster simply dies when opponents quick talking, and the vote can be taken.

Make them talk, Mr. Reid, and soon enough they will be brought to heel.

Don't you just love this great, noble government of ours....reduced to these contact sports, these games of out manuevering each other that they audaciously call "governing". No people in history should be more ashamed of their footprints than the louts in Washington -- Bush, Cheney, Pelosi, Reid....all of them. These people spit on this country. They spit on the people. They are detestable.

Someone needs to run as an independent moderate-liberal spoiler for US Congress from Pelosi's district and for Senate in Nevada, Harry Reid's state, to ensure that these two do not return to office. This is the payback. It's worth losing one house seat and one Senate seat. We can't punish all the dem reps and all the senators, but "the buck stops here" -- at the top. Sorry Nancy, sorry Harry. You ignored the base, you passed war funding, now it's time for accountability.

It's meaningless if they cave in on FISA immunity.

Please go to http://wexlerwantshearings.com/
to support Congressman Wexler's petition to impeach Cheney. Wexler is a member of the House Judiciary committee and he and two colleagues on the committee are pushing for the hearings to happen. In 24 hours Wexler has had 45,000 people sign the petition. This is really possible!

Why should Congress stay in session over Christmas, they just confirm anyone the "decider" nominates.

Mukasey is an ideal example, Congress stays in session over Thanksgiving to block recess appointments, then confirm the no good bastard anyway.

When you have to keep the Senate open during Christmas to prevent the traitors of the US from preying on the system you know the repukes are a pack of dangerous animals. Like those Nazis during WWII, the repukes will do anything to take America out for their own greed and stupidity.

I heard about this from Christine Kraft (filling in for Bernie Ward) on KGO radio last night at 10:00 p.m.

Congressman Robert Wexler, (19th Dist. Florida) wrote an Op-Ed regarding starting impeachment hearings against Cheney, and the major U.S. newspapers refused to print it.

Wexler has a petition which you can sign at www.wexlerwantshearings.com. . This is a grass roots effort and Christine was asking us to "stand up and be counted," and so that"s what I am doing here.

Please read the Op-Ed and sign the petition, and pass this on.

What difference does it make? They give into him anyway look at the AG now tell me what is the difference. Stay and think you are making a difference. I say filibuster everything until he cries Uncle but then he doesn't care, he just blames it on someone else. This is just a very mixed up nightmare will I wake up?
