After tears, jeers and a dramatic eleventh-hour U-turn by the United States, a compromise deal for a new international climate change agenda was finally struck in Bali yesterday, just as talks appeared on the brink of collapse.

Amid extraordinary and emotional scenes, which at one point saw the American delegation booed at the UN climate change conference, ministers from more 180 countries thrashed out agreement after days of wrangling.

Are we going to argue over facts until it is too late or is it already too late for reversible action? Other parts of the World are already feeling the effects of global warming, severe climatic changes are being experienced by Australia and Asia.
Parts of Australia is having the longest drought ever experienced before.
In parts of Asia, seasonal storms are getting more severe. In parts of South East Asia it is getting wetter than before and even after a heavy downpour you feel warm instead of coolness.
By the time we wait and accept that catastrophe climate changes are due to our own creation nothing can be done then.
A small turbo charged 3300cc diesel engine running at 75HP produce more heat and carbon dioxide per day than a whole family of four can produce in a month. Prove me wrong.
We cannot live without internal combustion engine at the moment but at least we can take a positive step forward lessen the emission.
As a delegate in Bali said "if you cannot lead then get out and let others do it'.

I think they can sign all the agreements they
want, but at the end of the day, somebody's
got to do something to generate the foot-pounds
to move goods from point A to point B. Yes,
trans-portation, as in, 'to carry across a long
distance'. And, unless you're going to harness
up a team of olympic bicylists generating 1/4
HP each, let's see, 40,000lb into 200 HP from 800 bicyclists generating 1/4hp each, assuming they can make it 10 miles before needing relief, to haul a load 300 miles would require
30x800 career athletes willing to dedicate
themselves body and soul to the task of bringing
that next load of horse manure to Boise, and
I just don't see that happening. Then, if you
were to apply the same model to say, a cross-
country trip, well, I think you'll see
steam trains make a comeback before that happens. Maybe the bicyclists could be enlisted
for local short-haul from the train station
to the grocery store...and, nevermind your poor weather conditions, which would most likely result in a loss of power and handling, and many fatalities...yeah, they need to evaluate
all this eco-poltix from a practicality
standpoint. Imagine a world without foreign
oil imports...we may be headed there...

Just a little reminder knuckleheads, if it wasn't for the U.S. there wouldn't be a U.N.

As reported on Harry Shearer's "Le Show" this morning:

Arctic summers ice-free 'by 2013'
15.12.07 21:47

'Scientists in the US have presented one of the most dramatic forecasts yet for the disappearance of Arctic sea ice.'

'Their latest modelling studies indicate northern polar waters could be ice-free in summers within just 5-6 years.'

'Professor Wieslaw Maslowski told an American Geophysical Union meeting that previous projections had underestimated the processes now driving ice loss.'

'Former US Vice President Al Gore cited Professor Maslowski's analysis on Monday in his acceptance speech at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo.'

Lets first give a hand to Ale Gore for opening up and saying "The US, my country, is responsible for the lack of progress in Bali! A big round of applaud. However, the Bush team, is all hat and no cattle. Any agreements or perceived agreement is all smoke or better yet cool-aid. If anyone believes anything this administration says "I have a bridge to sell him."

I remember the days when the US was looked up to, the best country in the world, the leader in all things good. Now, thanks mostly to GW and his stupid uneducated ways, he has brought us to the point of being the most loathed country in the world. Thank you GW you dumb ass fake cowboy.

The US booed, as they roundly deserve to be. Thankfuly the next President will be a Democrat that will believe in science, and will hopefuly put into motions what needs to be done to protect our children and grandchildren.

However we still have another year of this anti science pro big business adminstration. I'm sure in history books Al Gore will go down as a hero (if we solve this largely human caused problem) and Bush will go down as one of the worst presidents we have ever had, possibly the worst.

What absurdity!
Apparently, the global environment is under no threat from mankind unless it can be proven with scientific certitude (a) that man is "causing" global warming, and (b) what the exact consequences of that warming will be in the future.
So let"s put off dealing with any issues like deforestation, depletion of fisheries, desertification, shrinking aquifers, polluted air and water, urban sprawl, overpopulation, species extinction, plastics and chemical pollution, unhealthful lifestyles, overconsumption of limited resources, etc. and etc.
Oh? The measures to deal with those known and proven problems are the same or similar to the measures that might be taken to deal with "global warming"? How curious.
Yes, there really must be no looming environmental crises caused by man, at least not until the future course of global warming can be "proven".
How reassuring to believe that!

You gotta take with a grain of salt people who think they can change the weather. Humans produce a mere 6 giga-tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Volcanoes, animals, bacteria, decaying vegetation, and the oceans produce 100's of times more carbon dioxide than humans. Getting rid of fossil fuels the entire world over will not reverse anything. What humans produce is a drop in the bucket. What we are experiencing is a natural phenomenon. Get a grip.

Earth will balance itself, climate change will kill off the necessary amount of retarded featherless bipeds and the rest will change their actions or perish.
