John Edwards was already on to the next thing. March 3, 2004, was a tough day for the rookie presidential candidate. He'd gone into the Super Tuesday primaries just a day earlier with momentum left over from a surprise second-place finish in Iowa and a victory in South Carolina, and hoped to win at least a few of the 10 states up for grabs that day. Instead, he'd failed to dominate any of them, not even Georgia. He was finished. He wasn't going to be president.

The only democrat that can win, if Obama or Hillary get the nomination the repugs will come out of the walls to vote against them, whether there qualified or not, it makes no difference...the boys from the south voting for a women or an AfroAmerican, not in a million years!!!!!!!!!

Edwards is perfectly positioned based upon his inferred proposition that this economic system is crashing. If it is perceived to be crashing by January 3, 2008, for example a seriously declining stock market, people are going to vote for him recognizing that he has articulated issues related to a declining organization. The other candidates have shied away from addressing the disasterous economic, financial situation of our bankrupt country. Such an obvious campaign issue left essentially unaddressed is one of the enigmas of this Democratic campaign.
Coming events, not personalities, may well determine the next president of the United States.

The beltway establishment and the MIC owned MSM are clearly behind Clinton and Obama's promises for change show a public anxious to not continue the BCBCB dynasty.

Obama will have his Dean Scream moment and the people will not turn back to Clinton but will look to Edwards and his populist approach, as a chance to save America from BushCo's corporatism.

When John Edwards scolds the media for outing Barack Obama and offers his hand in partnership, the Tag Team from Camelot will be born. The political pendulum has already started to move left and America is ready for real change.

I'm really surprised John Edwards has not picked up more momentum and support in the past few months. He seems to be the most progressive/populist candidate out there. I thought that was what so many citizens wanted.

That article made me feel like I could relate to him which is something his campaign has been lacking.

As a minority in my field I can tell you one thing about being a minority. You get initial attention but if you aren't as good as or better than the majority you can't hold on to it. If just being black is enough to win a primary then why didn't Jessie Jackson do better?

As for Hillary, she is as good as the men but not really better.

Obama as a campaigner is better. Not sure who my candidate is but Obama has the best campaign.
Not because he is black. Because he's good.

Hello to all Edwards supporters!

Let me help you debunk a couple of your myths!

Edwards ran in 2004 and did not win! Obama and Clinton were not running at that time so to blame anyone of them is disingenuous.

Being white has never been a disadvantage not when whites are a majority.

No one would pay attention to Obama if he were white?

1) Obama was an A student.
2) President of Havard law review(smart).
3) Foregoes high paying career on Wall Street to go help the poor (Obama is the only toptier candidate who is not a MULTIMILLIONAIRE).
4) Practiced law to protect the rights of the poor or those that are less likely to protect themselves.
5) Went on to become state senator(8yrs).
6) Then a U.S senator.
7) Was a vocal opponent of the war when it was a popular war. He predicted where we could find ourselves in Iraq as if he were a prophet.

But he is getting attention because he is black? Give me a break!!!

A smart strategy is being played. The majority of Americans want to be seen as embracing equality so they naturally gravitate to wanting to show support for the non-white and female candidate and include them in the mix.

Edwards has been letting them share the spotlight and tarnish each other. The keen trial lawyer knows timing and how to win over a jury. One thing for sure, the majority of American's want to soundly reject the current party in the White House. Edwards is just about to make his move. He will emerge from the pack. I don't with all his policies but he will emerge and he can not be beat by the repugs.

Unfortunately Edwards is a white guy, in an election where many Democrats want to make history, either electing a woman or black man. That's what has also hurt Biden, who has done exceptional in most of the debates. I'm not saying something Edwards supporters don't know in their hearts. 43 straight white male Presidents, that's not a streak that goes in Edwards's favor.

He still has a shot though, and I wish him the best. He's is the true progressive in contention for the nomination. He is also the most electable looking at the polls. He would toast any Republican.

We would not even be reading a piece like this if elections were publicly funded. Then, the media would report on ALL candidates, not just two.

I would like to see Edwards win, although my first choice is elsewhere. And I would like to see the two"frontrunners" finish behind some other better-qualified candidate.

That would say that the folks in Iowa know the difference between an answer and a sound bite.No matter what the lazy, incompetent media tell us is going to happen.

Just watched Edwards on Face the Nation. He was very impressive. He spoke clearly about the necessity of challenging the destructive actions of corporate power. To me, this is the most important issue of our time.

He WILL win.

He HAS to win.

He is the BEST CHOICE for America.

Sorry, Hill and Barack...but both of you are just not up to the task.

I will have a great sense of SATISFACTION when he wipes the smugness off Hillary's face and gets the last laugh at the MSM.

I think Edwards would be a great president. If he manages to be the Democratic candidate, I think he would trounce the Republican candidate in the election.

Why John Edwards. Three main reasons. First and most important: 1) His ideas and vision, 2) His integrity and principles, 3) His work ethic. After reading the Newsweek Article, I am hopeful for John. Nobody tells Iowans how to vote. Not the Mainstream media, not Oprah, not Chelsea, certainly not Wall Street nor Washington insiders! And when I hear the rural people of America speak, it moves me far more than the city slickers who don't know one end of the plow from the other. John Edwards you rock in my book. Giordy

So, here we are again in the echo chamber of the corporatist press all about the facade and not about the candidate. Without EVER giving background on THE haircut, the $400 Haircut meme is repeated over and over and over until I'll bet more people can tell you how much they THINK Edwards pays for a hair cut than they can tell you what his position is on any of the major issues! I can assure you that Hillary is paying a BUNDLE for her hair because I pay a BUNDLE and I have the time to go into see my stylist and colorist. Do we hear about that? No! So, one has to wonder why one haircut where the stylist (the guy used to be a barber, but now markets himself as a stylist) had to be taken to Mr. Edwards due to his campaign schedule and the resulting tab from the actual haircut, plus the expenses of travel to where Mr. Edwards was, plus gratuity equaled a LOT of money gets so much play. Is that it? The corporatist media doesn't seem to comment on the things he'd do as President, wonder why? It's just so much easier to keep exploiting the one thing they got wrong to begin with!

Here's the quote from the article that totally floored me:

"At NC State, Edwards was himself again. He still couldn't afford the tuition, so he worked nights at UPS for about $8 an hour unloading boxes from 18-wheelers. He was broke but happy"

You're kidding, right? John Edwards is in his 50's, like me, which means he attended college in the early 70's, like me. The minimum wage back then was about $2.10/hr, gas was 49 cents a gallon, a loaf of bread was 39 cents, and you could get an efficiency apartment on or near campus for about $75 a month. People DREAMED of getting $8/hr for a good, hard to find union job like that.

Poor? Hardly. People were buying homes with wages like that, back then.
