Rupert

In a no-holds-barred interview with the UK Independent, movie star Rupert Everett lets loose on some of Hollywood's biggest names. Everett, the break out star of 1997's "My Best Friend's Wedding" and a great friend of Madonna, insulted everyone from Diane Keaton to Al Pacino. But the Brit, who is gay, had the most venom for George Clooney:

"[George] Clooney thinks that, provided he does films which are politically committed, he's allowed to do Ocean's 11, 12, and 13", he says. "But the Ocean's movies are a cancer to world culture. They're destroying us."

And Clooney the man? "He's not the brightest spark on the boulevard. He'll be president one day. Mark my words, if he's straight, he'll be president."

Of the other Hollywood legends at the end of his tongue lashing, Everett told interviewer Amol Rajan:

"De Niro, Redford, Keaton, Allen, Pacino ... They're all just tragic parodies of themselves. Al Pacino looks like a mad old freak now. I say give it a rest, or go and do some serious stuff...

The other day I saw a film called Because I Said So with Diane Keaton, and I thought, 'here's one of the women we loved most in 1970s cinema, debasing and humiliating herself in this load of trash'.

"Why? Because we're sheep, we just follow the herd ... It's just part of the huge amount of product that's put out now that's really bad. And it's our fault. We're all responsible for how the culture is. You can't draw a distinction between the celebrity nonsense on television and the film industry."

Everett will next be seen in a British film "St Trinian's," in which he plays a headmistress who has a very strong resemblance to Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall and wife of Prince Charles.

I don't like name dropping in criticism that singles out a 'chosen few' as it seems like sour grapes. But his critique of this culture was spot on and might have been too mild.

I thought it was Hugh Grant playing Andrew Ridgely.

Poor Miss Rupert. Is he getting Alzheimers?

Something tells me that in a few short years he will be like GLORIA SWANSON, tragically putting on makeup and wheeling around his dilapidated mansion BITCHING and MOANING about all of those Oscars he should have one, those men he should have bedded, and how everyone else is crappy.

Call it "West Hollywood Boulevard".

Last I heard, actors are "allowed" to appear in any film they want, be it Syriana or Ocean's 13, and they don't require Rupert Everett's approval to do so.

While I find Rupert's comments to be interesting, and probably true...

Why is it that all of his "quotes" are extremely negative and bitchy?

He is becoming 10x more famous for being a bitchy snarky queen than for his "acting".

Maybe this is all why he is so bitter and bitchy. Ironic, isn't it?

Ouch! Angry young man!! While he certainly is entitled to his opinion, and we're fully aware of the joke most of those who reside in Hollywood can be... come on Mr. Man! You may find yourself DYING to play a role in one of those Clooney, DeNiro, etc., etc., etc. movies! Ah ... don't bite the hand that could potentially feed you one day ...

Rupert, Rupert, Rupert. Haven't you read the handbook "How to Be a Working Movie Actor"? Lesson 1: Do not slag off other actors. You're a terrific actor, but your phone will not ring if you keep this up, regardless of whether what you say is true. And what is up with all the plastic surgery? You're inviting invective yourself.

Jeez, I'm almost wondering if I got accidentally routed to a right wing blog site. First of all Rupert is only stating the obvious truth that Hollywood and pop culture in general has become so dumbed down that even some of our most gifted actors have become parodies of themselves. Not necessarily even because they want to, but because that the only kind of schlock that is being produced. Was he being bitchy and overly critical by focusing on specific actors, maybe. Or perhaps he sees them as being truly talented and feels they sold out. What amazes me is some of the responses by what should normally be a progressive thinking group. Slurs about being gay and British? Xenophobic comments along the lines of "STFU and go back where you came from" and "see if you work in this town again". I must've inadvertanly logged onto the Drudge Report.

Hey,
I didn't like the Ocean's films as much as some. But who cares? You take a chance on something fun, and sometimes it pays off. All I can say is Michael Clayton

Which is singularly better than all of Everret's work combined.

Rup- I love you man and I know you're probably just giving a "shock" interview but come'on. Ocean's 11-13 a cancer? YOU WERE IN "INSPECTOR GADGET" for crying out loud. You went from gallavanting nude with (best shag of anyone's life>) Anna Falchi in zombie movies to wincingly playing love interest to old dog Julia Roberts and fag to 40 yr old Madonna's hag.

You need a new agent or just go back to Europe cuz besides "An Ideal Husband" (which you were brilliant in btw)- Hollywood's just given you crap roles. For the record I haven't seen your Boston Legal appearances. Hopefully work will pick up to meet your talents. Till then, shut up dude.

Anybody seen St. Trinian's? He's doing a remake of the Alistair Sims classic. Anybody want to bet this remake is nowhere near as funny?

Bitter queen, party of one! I'm a gay man and I find her to be unappealing.

Yes, DeNiro, Keaton and Pacino may be doing subpar work, but they do have strong bodies of work behind them, unlike this thing who's got their scary Marc Jacobs heroin cum anorexic look going now.
