Rupert Everett Trashes Clooney, Keaton And More: "All Just Tragic Parodies Of Themselves"

Rupert

In a no-holds-barred interview with the UK Independent, movie star Rupert Everett lets loose on some of Hollywood's biggest names. Everett, the break out star of 1997's "My Best Friend's Wedding" and a great friend of Madonna, insulted everyone from Diane Keaton to Al Pacino. But the Brit, who is gay, had the most venom for George Clooney:

"[George] Clooney thinks that, provided he does films which are politically committed, he's allowed to do Ocean's 11, 12, and 13", he says. "But the Ocean's movies are a cancer to world culture. They're destroying us."

And Clooney the man? "He's not the brightest spark on the boulevard. He'll be president one day. Mark my words, if he's straight, he'll be president."

Of the other Hollywood legends at the end of his tongue lashing, Everett told interviewer Amol Rajan:

"De Niro, Redford, Keaton, Allen, Pacino ... They're all just tragic parodies of themselves. Al Pacino looks like a mad old freak now. I say give it a rest, or go and do some serious stuff...

The other day I saw a film called Because I Said So with Diane Keaton, and I thought, 'here's one of the women we loved most in 1970s cinema, debasing and humiliating herself in this load of trash'.

"Why? Because we're sheep, we just follow the herd ... It's just part of the huge amount of product that's put out now that's really bad. And it's our fault. We're all responsible for how the culture is. You can't draw a distinction between the celebrity nonsense on television and the film industry."

Everett will next be seen in a British film "St Trinian's," in which he plays a headmistress who has a very strong resemblance to Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall and wife of Prince Charles.

Is that all? Oceans 11-13 are what? This guy
has a movie coming out where he plays a 'head'-
mistress and Madona can't save him and he needs
the publicity and Clooney will never be president
and he's right about Pacino and De Niro.

Hey Rupert, all those people you just insulted swing a lot of wood in Hollywood.

Good luck on your future employment.

LOL

Rupert's point about Pacino is especially true, and De Niro and Keaton aren't batting .1000 either, not even .285.

But he's absolutely wrong on Clooney. Clooney is a great actor, one of the best that Hollywood has right now.

George Clooney unlike intellectual writers may truly understand the nature of political clout better than Mr. Rupert. John McCain could only hope for an endorsement from a Clooney or an Oprah--but just maybe Hollywood actors become influential enough to oppose the establishment and secure opportunities for alternative candidates.

Who is Rupert Everett?

Everett is a poor man's Richard E Grant.

Grant is far more clever, classy and not to mention, wittier in his take of Hollywood. Everett comes off as jealous, whiney and a tad hypocritical. ....well, ok... more than a tad.

He should know how Hollywood works, so I think his criticisms of actors such as Keaton, De Niro and Pacino are grossly unfair. Particularly in the case of Keaton. Good film roles are slim pickings for women such as herself.

As for his comments about Clooney.... jealous much?

What Rupert Everett said sounded catty and ankle-biting, but I agree with his overall point. The crap that is put out as entertainment right now is shameful.

You have to admit that Pacino, DeNiro and Keaton have definitely slipped alot--and, I can only hope that they're in desperate need of money to accept the roles in some of those ridiculous movies where they do look like a parody of themselves.

I even think Rupert was putting himself in the same category, as well. Maybe the standard for entertainment is driven more by the bottom-line than substance and class.

My 2 cents. Support independent films.

Keaton's not the one adopting "all those kids"- it's Mia Farrow. I guess we're all parodies of ourselves- life's not fair, we age, get old, die- actors have to take what they can get, then get lifetime achievement awards while making bad movies that people pay to see- not because of them, but their flavor-of-the-month co-stars. The culture is dumbed down, and movies, TV, and music especially are reflective of that. We've had two terms of George Bush, and there's still a Republican party. It would be hilarious analyzing who's running for president if it weren't so frightening. Sound like "Debbie Downer," I know- but it's true!
