Rupert Everett Trashes Clooney, Keaton And More: "All Just Tragic Parodies Of Themselves"

Rupert

In a no-holds-barred interview with the UK Independent, movie star Rupert Everett lets loose on some of Hollywood's biggest names. Everett, the break out star of 1997's "My Best Friend's Wedding" and a great friend of Madonna, insulted everyone from Diane Keaton to Al Pacino. But the Brit, who is gay, had the most venom for George Clooney:

"[George] Clooney thinks that, provided he does films which are politically committed, he's allowed to do Ocean's 11, 12, and 13", he says. "But the Ocean's movies are a cancer to world culture. They're destroying us."

And Clooney the man? "He's not the brightest spark on the boulevard. He'll be president one day. Mark my words, if he's straight, he'll be president."

Of the other Hollywood legends at the end of his tongue lashing, Everett told interviewer Amol Rajan:

"De Niro, Redford, Keaton, Allen, Pacino ... They're all just tragic parodies of themselves. Al Pacino looks like a mad old freak now. I say give it a rest, or go and do some serious stuff...

The other day I saw a film called Because I Said So with Diane Keaton, and I thought, 'here's one of the women we loved most in 1970s cinema, debasing and humiliating herself in this load of trash'.

"Why? Because we're sheep, we just follow the herd ... It's just part of the huge amount of product that's put out now that's really bad. And it's our fault. We're all responsible for how the culture is. You can't draw a distinction between the celebrity nonsense on television and the film industry."

Everett will next be seen in a British film "St Trinian's," in which he plays a headmistress who has a very strong resemblance to Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall and wife of Prince Charles.

If only you Yanks would get proportionally outraged by your politicians,as you do this actor - we Brits might think your opinion really mattered - shut up and look at the mirror, Rupert is right and as soon as you lot stop watching the E channel, fox sport, episodic tv and get a grip on what life on this planet is really all about, the better off you and the rest of us would all be. You were all sitting around in a circle jerk while a bunch of criminals stole your country - ya jag offs, jeeez! look at you all, the world stands Gobsmacked! It's a crying shame....

Calling all those actors parodies of themselves and Everett is going to play a "headmisstress" in his next film LOL? He's not the greatest of actors and has made a career playing gay roles. That's fine but to denounce other actors for taking a chance and doing other roles is pretty lame. Yes, Pacino has aged and shouldn't be playing the tough guy any more; that's pretty lame by now too but Diane Keaton and Clooney are entitled to a bad pick once in a while; most actors are and do that. Every film made can't be the best. I suppose Everett thinks Madaonna is a great film actress LOL. She is if she doesn't have any lines as in Evita but as soon as she opens her mouth, it all goes down the toilet.

Oh Rupert are you bitter? Is it because they have forced you to play straight roles for all these years?

Absolutely right about "Because I said so" a dog of a movie with four women on cell phones to each other during sex, dinner and even while they are walking down the street together. It's crap. But then Diane Keaton likely uses the money on all those kids she adopts.

As for Clooney not being smart, how would silly Rupert be able to ascertain that. Watch "Good Night and Good Luck" he had to be smart to make that movie.

Rupert sounds like a woman scorned. Or maybe he was just PMSing.

He is definitely a cute guy. He starred in Ideal Husband, played heterosexual in that particular one. Good entertaining movie.

We like our movie stars. This venomous, jaelous, gay Britt don't mean crop here in the US.

He's right. Clooney is a competent actor and nothing more. The "Oceans" movies are smug and deadly boring, like leafing through a copy of GQ in a dentist's office.

If it weren't for his looks very few people would know who Clooney is. Mr. Everett makes good points about several other spectacularly overrated, overexposed performers as well. And his take on the film and television industries is spot-on. Most of the stuff at the theatres and on TV is sub-mediocre. The hype is more interesting than the product itself--that's why there are so many paparazzi-type TV shows.

Do people truly believe that Clooney himself thinks he's worth all the fuss? He probably agrees with Everett on more than a few points.

All Mr. Rupert comments amount to nothing more than A-list envy! He attacks the likes of George Clooney, Robert Di Nero and Diane Keaton because they are where he wishes he was. His career hasn't panned out the way he thought is was going to so he's bitter and is lashing out. Besides he's been in his share of duds, can anyone remember "The Next Best Thing"? I found his comment about Clooney becoming president particularly irrational, since although Bush might not be gay many of the republicans running this administrations day to day operations are! Mr. Rupert piece of advice, stop blaming others for your lack of a career! Blame your plastic doctor for that and the fact that u picked the wrong career coach (Madonna)!

This from a man whose career choices include The Wild Thornberrys Movie, Inspector Gadget and the legendary Dunston Checks In? Rupert, I hear you buddy, and nobody appreciates thoughtful film-making more than do I, but there's nothing wrong with a little fluff now and then. Not every film can be, for instance, No Country for Old Men. Sometimes we need an Oceans 11 (or 12 or even 13) to kick back and relax a bit. Which is exactly what you should do.
