Huckabee Equated Homosexuality With Pedophilia, Necrophilia

At the last Republican presidential debate, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, who had surged into the lead in the Iowa polls, pitched himself as the potential president who could unite a nation divided. "I think the first priority of the next president is to be a president of all the United States," he said. "We are right now a very polarized country, and that polarized country has led to a paralyzed government. We've got Democrats who fight Republicans, liberals fighting conservatives, the left fights the right. Who's fighting for this country again?...We've got to be the united people of the United States."...

... In a 1998 book decrying American culture, Huckabee was no seeker of common ground. He drew stark lines, equating environmentalists with pornographers and homosexuality with pedophilia and necrophilia. He also declared that people who do not believe in God tend to be immoral and to engage in "destructive behavior." He drew a rather harsh picture of an American society starkly split between people of faith and those of a secular bent, with the latter being a direct and immediate threat to the nation.

Most so-called Christians don't have any of their own opinions, just the ones they "learned" in church. What do people expect? Almost every "Christian" politician spews the same general nonsense, give or take. Growing up a Christian, I was taught that Christianity was about your relationship with God/Jesus, and how to be a good, decent person, TO EVERYONE, not just to those sharing your beliefs. Apparently, the Right-Wing has an agenda that's pretty simple to follow. Do it our way, or get "left behind".;^) I'll take my chances elsewhere, thanks.

It is funny how one can look at the same set of problems and come away with very different conclusions. I mean it's not like I don't see polarization, immorality and not to mention a rather unhealthy dose of hypocrisy, I do. Being a member of the secular left, a dissenter in the noblest of traditions for who were the founding fathers but a bunch of dissenters, I see a grave threat to health and liberty of this Republic precisely in you Mr Huckabee and those like you.
Not that is any of your business but I am celibate by choice because I once lost my partner and the thought of sex outside love with another man holds no appeal for me. So much for my immorality.
But speaking of immorality, it is fascinating to me that in this age of politically-sponsored abstinence, teen-age pregnancy rates are on the rise and most acutely in the Deep South. I can assure Mr. Huckabee that we gay men are not responsible for this and whatever other faults or fetishes we might have. And I have been to Folsom Street Fair on more than one occasion and I am eager to report that sex with the dead, children or animals was not part of the festival either among homosexuals or heterosexuals. But that's progressive San Francisco, I can't speak for what happens in Arkansas but I am sure it ain't pretty.
I'm pessimistic however that you Mr. Huckabee and I may yet bridge our cultural divide. You can't even accept scientific facts even though if you have a dog you can clearly see evolution in progress or if you eat beef, pork or domestic fowl you might have noticed or at least thought about how humanity has bio-engineered these species and bred them to fit our needs. No, you prefer your worldly knowledge to be that of found on ancient parchments written by a people who lived in caves three thousand years ago.

For the record - men who consider themselves to be heterosexual by far make up the the largest percentage of child molesters and rapists.

Although these statistics are greatly skewed when the Catholic Church is represented. At that point one has to look at their employment bennifit package to understand the numbers.

Catholic priests are allowed two weeks vacation per year and 3 children under 12 years of age per month, both sexes, preferably on Sundays after mass.

That allows for up to 36 children per year however, they can add additional one on one play events if they submit a special request in writing 3 days prior.
