Yesterday on "The View," Sherri Shepherd discussed taking her two-year-old son Jeffrey to a toy store that was having a sale instead of giving him a nap. She described the store, Giggle, as "a rich white folks' store."

What distinguishes a "rich white folks' store" from any other store? For Sherri, it's the inability to physically discipline her screaming child. Jeffrey was crying as they shopped for toys, but Sherri told the panel that, because she felt guilty about bringing him to the store instead of letting him nap, "I couldn't do what I normally would have done. Plus the people [were] looking at me like, this wasn't a store that looked like they beat the kids. So I had to do as the Romans do when I was in the Roman store."

It remains unclear whether these Romans came before or after the Christians.

Is Huffpo playing to racist racial stereotypes by even presenting this story? Is Huffpo considering making Sherri their new silly black person after the departure of Starr Jones?

Good grief, people--take these comments in context. Sherri S. is just riffing on a somewhat amusing scenario. All kinds of people, including white people, could feel similarly self-conscious in an upscale Manhattan boutique--I know I would. She acknowledges it was dumb to skip the kid's nap. And, most of all, the line about "beating" the kid was a throw-away line at the end of the riff. To take it as a straight-forward statement that she would have beat her kid in a different store, well, THAT assumption has a few racist assumptions behind it.

All of this contempt and name-calling is pretty appalling.

I think Sherri ought to be beaten in a "Rich White Folks Store".

We ask first why this was on The View and then next why was this on huffington post. Racial hyperbole and the consciousness of separation is overplayed and not funny. Let's grow up folks and raise the bar just a little.

I saw the show, and as usual, Sherri made a derriere out of herself. I would like to know the difference between a "rich white folks" store and any other kind of store, or is there such a thing as a "poor black folks" store.

The real question is, why would anyone take their kid into a toy store at Christmas time. That's like taking a diabetic to Baskin & Robbins.

The jackassing of America. pain is fun. stupidity is expected. Public ridicule is the norm.

this woman is a moron. plain and simple. she doesn't know if the earth is round or flat, she thinks that jesus predated the Greek civilization and now her obvious use of a racist tact to explain away her failed child rearing practices. she is a perfect example of the complete dumbing down of american society.

First you deprive a child of a nap and then you would have physically punished him except it was a rich, white kids store. mm-mm-mm.

Ladies, where is your outrage? This type of programming along with "Entertainment Tonight" and "TMZ" are your babies. This stuff is for your pleasure. How does it feel knowing that this level of media degradation is specifically marketed to YOU. I don't know too many men TiVo'ing “The View” so they can catch up on the latest stupidity. If you're outraged look around. Not to many dudes are talking about this.
Men are not getting a pass. They are too busy throwing down $49.95 to watch men beat each other half to death in a caged ring. However this social issue is on you.
Let's create a list:
American Idol
The Bachelor
The View
ET
Inside Edition
TMZ....on and on
These are your dollars.

Sherri,
Spanking, Whipping, Beating your kids only teaches them that the biggest person in the room is always right. You idiot. Is that what you want to teach your kid? I guess teaching them to be smart is out of the question.

It must be wonderful to go through life this dumb.
Sometimes thinking can be so damned hard.
We should all try it for a week to see if it lessens
stress.

This woman is so monumentally stupid, I can't believe she's been given this dream job "chatting for check".

She couldn't do what she normally would have done? Which is what? Beat the child for acting like a child who hasn't had a nap? A nap he was deprived of because his ignorant self serving cow of a "mother" put her desire to shop before the needs of her child?

Any ignorant sow who whines about having to exhibit self control to avoid striking a child for responding naturally to the stresses INDUCED by said sow, is a sow that should have had the snip before it ever reproduced.

My apologies for offending actual sows by the comparison; pigs are actually good mothers - unlike this ignorant twisted moron who fancies herself a victim of "the man" rather than taking responsibility for the shit she created for herself.

Way to go idiot - blame an ENTIRE race AND financial class for your own lack of self control - as evidenced by your extremely FAT ASS!
