In an effort reminiscent of the bitter "Swift Boat" campaign during the 2004 presidential race, a group of New York firefighters who lost sons in the Sept. 11 World Trade Center attacks is organizing a political committee to take on former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani in Republican primary states.

To all of the trolls who think of this sissy-boy with a bully's mask as some kind of hero, Rudy bought 2-way radios for the NYC Firefighters that were about 10 years outdated. It wasn't his call to make, but he did. He knew best. These radios did not work inside of buildings. (Now, think about New York City for a moment. Buildings, right? Right. The whole city is buildings. To the firefighters, radios that don't let them talk with one another inside buildings are useless.) They did not let the Firefighters and Police talk with one another. Police and Firefighters NEED to communicate, during fires and especially during major emergencies. The Firefighters did not want them, and said so. The firefighter brass did not want them, and said so. Rudy knew best, of course, and gave the no-bid contract (in violation of city and state laws) to a campaign donor and bought the radios. The ones that the Firefighters and Police did not want. The ones that did not work properly. The ones with outdated technology and big price tags. On Sept. 11, the Firefighters inside the World Trade Center buildings had only these useless radios. They could not communicate with one another inside the buildings, and they could not communicate with the Police. Those inside could not hear their commanders telling them to get out because the buildings were going to collapse. They never heard the Police helicopters, circling overhead, telling them to get out because the buildings were going to collapse. They died carrying those expensive, worthless radios that Rudy bought from a campaign contributor. Blood money. Blood money. Who knows how many brave men and women died on that day because RUDY'S RADIOS DID NOT WORK?!?!?! I would say that their brave blood is on his hands, but I have too much respect for them, and too much contempt for Rudy..

So, Rudy... tell us about the radios, won't you? Tell us all about the radios.

It talks about 'Operation Tripod,' which was scheduled in a large commercial warehouse on the Hudson River, where over 1000 police academy cadets and fire department trainees were recruited to act the parts of civilians afflicted with medical conditions.

Because the Pier had been set up for the exercise, OEM staff were able to quickly convert it into a large emergency operations center when the original command center in WTC Building 7 was evacuated and later destroyed.

Also the operation ensured many recuse workers being available for quick response earlier in the day prior to the attacks

Things are going to get really ugly for Giuliani. His poll numbers have been dropping for the past few months amid a barrage of negative news and the rise of Mike Huckabee.

Now the families of 9-11 firefighters are coming after him. This isn't news to me; the firefighters' union REALLY hates Giuliani, but this this fact has not merited much exposure in the mainstream media - yet.

Does he really want this nomination? Did he really think that he could coast along by the sheer power of the Giuliani myth, abetted by the media, which until now has been most cooperative? If he is the nominee, I can picture hundreds, if not thousands, of firefighters from all over the country picketing the Republican convention.

Last time it was anti-war protestors, which the Republican propoganda machine dismissed as a mob of crazy America-hating traitors. How would they handle the firefighters, the icons of 9-11? This would be a PR nightmare for the Republicans. They can't just ignore them and hope they go away, as the crescendo will get constantly louder and the media, even Fox, won't be able to ignore it; and they wouldn't dare attack them. Well, maybe Ann Coulter would, like she did the 9-11 widows. You know what, I hope she runs her mouth off and makes things even worse.

Giuliani is a great salesman and his abrasive personally actually resonates with some people, who confuse arrogance with strength and competence and pure-ambition-on-steroids-as-an-end-in-itself with confidence and the courage of one's convictions.

There has been a consistent pattern: The more people learn about Giuliani, the less they like him, though his most fervent supporters will probably still believe that Giuliani is America's savior. Reality supercedes the myth, and the firefighters speaking out will hopefully accelerate the process.
