Mike Huckabee is making the talk show rounds trying to explain that the floating cross in his Christmas ad is just a bookshelf. He even got conspiratorial on "Today" this morning when he was interviewed by Meredith Vieira. He attempted a joke about looking for coded messages in Morse code when he blinks his eyes as he lamented the uproar of the bookshelf-turned-cross.

That floating cross is a bookshelf.... People are looking for anything in the world. It's so politically incorrect to say "Merry Christmas" anymore.... It's just beyond ridiculous. You can't even say "Merry Christmas" without people getting all sensitive about it.

Has anyone noticed that the background in this ad moves as if the camera is being panned yet Huckabee remains fixed in place with respect to the camera? Clearly this commercial is some kind of construct and not a simple casual shot in someones home. The complexity of this shot would make the accidental introduction of some items, particularly the cross, unlikely.

While I do not find the introduction of the cross out of line with the overt Christian religious content of the message, I do wonder where the funds came from to pay for it. Since Federal funds are used in a candidate's primary bid, would not the use of these monies in such an ad press the Separation of Church and State?

You know, if he has to explain (explain a bookshelf - ???) on all the talk shows, that has to be proof that we are right on calling his bluff, sorry, not a bluff - a LIE.
Ya know, we all know that almost any one running in America for public office is (probably) a Christian. What is the point of trying to prove that they are (we know it al ready, it is a given - this is America, after all, last to be lead by anyone OTHER than a White Anglo-Saxon from Europe / Christian heritage, heck even the Muslim countriues are ahed of us on this!).
Their only point has to be: I am a better Christian than you, and that is the anti-theisis of all Christian teachings.
Back that's what we get with homeschoolong and this really bad idea the republicans had years ago - creating the Middle School (cutting the JR High School out, shorting the Elementary years) since they could change what was taught, they change the whole system -- and look at the shape of our country now, because of this change.

Iraqnophobia, I must ask? - How do you know what has happened to me? While it probably was not as when you get yelled at, I did get yelled at for saying Happy Holidays (re: Happy Holy Days, duh!) last year. As since I knew her, I know she is a conservative / reuplican.
How dare and all the neo-cons say you know what a liberal / democrat (there are two different things at times, did ya know this) thinks, says or acts, Yet you people also state that - that you know what we think. How could you? And if you did, you would see the beauty, the clearness, the truth, the christianityy of our views. And you would move over to us on the left.
So, please only state your views and what has happened in your life, as you may know of that.

And, yes the good, all-american liberals, good folks that they are happen to Love me.

Now please Be Right, care about America and Vote Left. Really, that the only HOPE we have left after these years of National disgrace.

Iragnophobia, how do you know what has happened to me? Maybe it wasn't as loud as when you get yelled at, but yes I did get yelled at - last year - for saying Happy Holidays, and as I knew her, I also know she is a conservative / republican. You can not ALWAYS change history, although you guys and gals certainly do try.

I also wonder, how (dare) you think that you know what a democrat thinks, what they are. Would it be OK, if I were to start saying what I believe a conservative thinks. No, so we don't. Just and only just - state your conservative beliefs - Not Ours, please stop (all you neo-cons and the like) saying you know what we think! IF you really did, you would be amazed and would join us.

Be Right, Care about America and Vote Left.
Oh, the liberals, good true blue Americans, as they all are, Love Me!

What has America turned into? I"m sick of all this religious crap coming up everywhere. Is this Iran? You want Imams or preachers running things? Rapture proponents? We"re talking politicians here, not those eligible for sainthood. Grow up, please.

Actually, after looking at the replay within the video above a couple of times, it is obvious that the "so called cross" is reflective tape.

You can actually see where the tape ends on the left horizontal shelf - because of the camera angle - but the bookshelf continues farther to the left.

If that bookcase can be examined (if it was preserved), one could confirm the hoax in Braille.

A floating bookshelf on which the lighting was deliberately manipulated, or on which a reflective substance was pasted to form the cross under any lighting condition... except total darkness.

Huckabee is lying himself into a corner. The cross remains a perfectly formed cross that does not extend to the ends of the shelves, in spite of the fact that the camera moves from right to left while Willie Horton II's Governor is speaking.

Does the Huckster not realize that he and all the rest of these political and commercial Christians are going to have their asses roasted on the hottest flames in hell?

Does he remember anything about Jesus driving the money changers from the temple?

Take that literally Huckleberry!

This is ridiculous. Are we supposed to choose between Baptist progressives or Mormon (Joseph Smith idiocracy), or Methodist? Take your pick! That is what to which this election has boiled down.

As Freud would say, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. But in politics, especially with republicans, nothing is as it seems. Bookcase, my butt.

Nothing in the fame of view in that ad is there by accident or coincidence. Absolutely nothing.

To all the libs here on the HuffPo who are going bonkers over a candidate having religious convictions, get a grip... do you think Abe Lincoln didn't pray?

Our history is filled with leaders who relied up their Christian faith. The problem here is not separation of church and state, it's a problem of liberal athiests acting out with indignant contempt. Such people would be well advised to read Camus who said, "I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't and die to find out there is."

And I'm a guy who doesn't go to Church and hasn't picked up the Bible in a long time...

Huckster is saying "It's not a cross, it's a BOOKSHELF!" But it's clearly obvious they were creating the appearance of the cross from the lighting around the tree and the shelf. That, plus he invokes the name of Christ in the ad. But what really tops it off is that now he's denying any attempt to preach...

Christ is allright by me (as is Mohammed, Buddha, Shiva, Baphomet, and the rest of the bunch) but i think any self-respecting deity would not be too keen on being used as a political stunt.

I noticed his 'Christian Campaign' emblazened all over the screen. No doubt a subtle reminder to all the 'Fundies' he is only one running who is one. That's the way that kind of nonsense always comes off as exclusionary. He wonders why he is a target???? He has made himself one.
