The Department of Justice refused to send a representative to answer questions from Congress today on the investigations into allegations of rape and sexual assault on female American contractors.

"I'm embarrassed that the Department of Justice can't even come forward," said the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee John Conyers, D-Mich.

I just finished watching this on CSPAN.

It was wonderful to see the absolutely sincere sympathy and outrage from BOTH the Republicans and Democrats.

Before you comment on this... you really need to watch. It was 50/50 Rep/Dem and EVERYONE was OUTRAGED by what happened and even more angered that NOBODY from the Justice Department showed up.

Hightlights:

1. A Republican declaring that WAR is NO excuse for ignoring civil liberties.

2. Unanimous agreement that crimal acts should no longer be shielded by arbitrator contracts.

3. A Republican starting to automatically say 'alleged' rape and stopping to state that he believes that it happened.

It was heart warming to watch people put aside partisan politics and unite to fight for victims. It was amazing to watch.

What does anyone honestly expect to come to pass from a Justice Department headed up by former Attorney General Alfonso "Fredo" Gonzales? Rape and Christmas are so totally incompatible these days.

Bastards all. May their privates slowly, disintegrate into a festering, gelatinous mass.

At some point will the members of the Justice Department, who are still sane, take to the streets in protest of what this Administration has done to the rule of law in the United States?

Not one representative of the Justice Department will attend this hearing on a crime against an American Citizen?

Not one?

What message is the Justice Department sending to America?

'We are disinterested in acting unless it is a chance to persecute a political enemy like Former Alabama Governor Don Seigelman, or Former Assistant Attorney General Norbert Schlei.'

This is a travesty ...

Hey, you in the Justice Department. Yah, you! Do you believe in your work? Do you stand for Justice? Do you think it was right that your Department blew off this Hearing?

If not ... get off your asses ... and let it be known! Be part of the solution not part of the problem!

Good God.

We need some real change. The republicans don,t care about this rape charge. The democrats are outraged because they sent a sexy blond female into the battle zone.
Nobody deserves to be raped, but come on, you do not send American Sex symbols into total insanity.

As a female I have no sympathy for that blond supermodel. She should have studied history first before getting herself into that predicament. War is not pretty, it is gross, awful and everything goes.

Who cares about all the other Iraqi women being raped by our military? Noone.

What you sow, so you reap.

Where is the religious right in all of this? Those who condemn sin, lewdness, sex and violence. What sayeth the righteous Christian White House who send kids to the slaughter house?

It would seem to me that misconduct of any type by those charged with providing security to State Department officials would be of highest priority to the Justice, State and Defense Departments. Criminal charges might not be forthcoming because of the jurisdiction issues but, beyond that, they should investigate thoroughly to uncover possible security breaches or weaknesses related to misconduct, criminal or otherwise.

Why should the leaders of your evil nation have to answer for the rape of one woman. Thousands have been raped in Iraq by your mercenaries. You are all too week to stand up to your dictator, so this is what you get. The rest of the world has suffered your crimes for years. Now you lazy stupid citizens will start to be victimized too. You allow Bush to rape and kill all over the planet and you don't care. The world is laughing as you turn into a third world country. Most of you are too stupid, too vain to understand yet.

The absence of an explanation or defense is an admission of guilt.
It is that simple.
Claiming an independent investigation by Justice Dept. when everyone knows the investigation and the results are controlled by Halliburton via the White House is so transparent as to be laughable.

DoJ won't investigate KBR rape or, missing CIA torture tapes, but feels totally justified in politicizing the offices of U.S. Attorneys to rid America of THE SCOURGE of voter fraud.

I'd say the DoJ is a fraud.

"Onward Christian soldiers!"

Justice means nothing to the Justice department.

I can't imagine any reason for them to not be involved.

The attorney general obviously follows the rule, if we delay something nasty, something else will come along that is likewise nasty but doesn't involve us.

the latest event will get attention and no one will remember they had a bone to pick with us.

I'd say that on this one, the key word is
'allegation'.

Main Entry: al·lege
Pronunciation: É"-ˈlej
Function: transitive verb
Inflected Form(s): al·leged; al·leg·ing
Etymology: Middle English alleggen to submit in evidence or as justification, adduce, from Anglo-French aleger, allegger, probably in part modification of Medieval Latin allegare, from Latin, to send as a representative, adduce in support of a plea (from ad- + legare to depute), in part from Anglo-French aleger to lighten, free, exculpate, from Late Latin alleviare to relieve " more at legate, alleviate
Date: 14th century
1archaic : to adduce or bring forward as a source or authority
2: to assert without proof or before proving
