National Enquirer Enters The 2008 Presidential Race With Edwards Love-Child Story

The National Enquirer has gone political in their most recent issue, alleging that John Edwards has fathered a love-child with a filmmaker who once worked on a series of webisodes for his One America Committee. Rumors of the affair between Edwards and the filmmaker, a 43-year-old divorcee named Rielle Hunter, have been denied by both parties.

Now, as the Enquirer has published photos of a clearly pregnant Hunter, she has gone on the record confirming that she is pregnant but denying that Edwards is the father. She claims that the biological father is Edwards operative Andrew Young, a married man who confirms both his extramarital affair with Hunter and that the baby is his. Hunter, who lived in New York, has recently relocated to a gated community in North Carolina near Young and his family. But, the Enquirer claims that Hunter is privately telling friends that Edwards fathered the baby.

The thing I find most DISGUSTING is the tags they've decided to associate with the article. Every variation possible to STATE that Edwards had an affair, when clearly he DID NOT.

Someone in HuffPo is gleefully spreading rumors about Edwards that are complete lies.

This is far beneath Arianna Huffington, and I bet she doesn't even know about this post.

I've thought for a while that with the number of "entertainment" related article that play so clearly in the the MSM guidebook of keeping people distracted, that the site should be renamed...

The Fluffington Post... now I truly believe it.

I heard the L.A. Times has a story on one of the presidential candidates regarding a sex scandal. Everyone was assuming it was Obama.

I am wondering if this is it and the candidate is Edwards?

If the LA Times publishes their story it will be over for Edwards.

This story is what I would consider preliminary target practice.

It is clear his candidacy is attracting attention and fear on the part of the very folks he is going to fighting as our President.

In an odd way, this is a good sign. The Edwards' message is working and its the traction is real.

If you read the story and ignore all that Occam's Razor nonsense, you will see there is really not much there.

The father of the child is clearly John Edward's former "Director of Operations" Andrew Young, who has admitted to being the father. Ms. Hunter also admits that Young is the man as well. This alone should reassure the skeptics among us.

Mr. Young is also doing the right thing and has placed Rielle in a rental home in the Governors Club, the same gated community where he lives in a multimillion-dollar home with his wife Cheri and their young children. It is also reported that Ms. Hunter is a frequent dinner guest of the Youngs.

This shows compassion and understanding on the part of the Youngs. They are demonstrating a big love that is admirable in these tough times.

Please don't lower your values and standards by reporting anything that comes from the "Inquirer.­" We all know that they report old issues and gossip to sell their smut and if they get sued, so what, they make more $'s than the liability awards and it takes years to settle them anyway.

This kind of journalism is like the predatory Big Pharmas who sell billions of $'s worth of harmful or useless drugs and pay back a few million $'s in settlements. In the mean time they have hurt their customers and in this case a candidate as there are seldom follow-up articles clarifying the issues to these vicious reports and endangerments.

I'm no big fan of Edwards, but to run stories that are printed in the Enquirer is sorta silly. Edwards is not my first choice for President, or even second - but his heart is in the right place. There is a place in our govt. for Edwards, sleaze like this is unfortunate.

First we have breathless updates on "The View's" Sherri Shepherd of the flat earth - no one existed before Jesus - and why can't I beat my two year old in a white folks store fame to tabloid reporting of Barack Obama's fairly normal voting record in the Illinois senate. What is going on?

hate to say it but i've found the enquirer right on in some past celebrity scandals. remember, they were the folks who outed rush limbaugh's drug addiction. and, years ago, they were the first people to learn of jackie gleason's stomach cancer. so i wouldn't dismiss what they write. as for the edwards aide who claims paternity, he may simply be fronting for his boss. it won't make any difference in a few weeks, because edwards is going to get knocked out of the democratic race shortly.

...seems odd to me that Mrs. Young would not have taken the kids and left her husband and maybe even filed for divorce by now if Mr. Young's pregnant mistress moved all the way from NY to NC to be close to him...unle­ss of course both Mr. and Mrs. Young are going along with some ruse designed to cover for their friend and employer John Edwards and even to protect his ill wife...Edw­ards obviously has enough money to make it worthwhile for Andy and his family...
