National Enquirer Enters The 2008 Presidential Race With Edwards Love-Child Story

The National Enquirer has gone political in their most recent issue, alleging that John Edwards has fathered a love-child with a filmmaker who once worked on a series of webisodes for his One America Committee. Rumors of the affair between Edwards and the filmmaker, a 43-year-old divorcee named Rielle Hunter, have been denied by both parties.

Now, as the Enquirer has published photos of a clearly pregnant Hunter, she has gone on the record confirming that she is pregnant but denying that Edwards is the father. She claims that the biological father is Edwards operative Andrew Young, a married man who confirms both his extramarital affair with Hunter and that the baby is his. Hunter, who lived in New York, has recently relocated to a gated community in North Carolina near Young and his family. But, the Enquirer claims that Hunter is privately telling friends that Edwards fathered the baby.

This smells like something that the Clintons' campaign operatives planted for shock value. I don't believe it and I wouldn't get surprised if they come out next week with some other garbage. If they can smear Obama - why shouldn't they spread other garbage around on Edwards. Dodd and Biden aren't a threat to Hillary.
With all of the garbage about Bill Clinton that Hillary denied all those years which proved to be TRUE - it is getting real hilarious. Am I hearing that song again "Stand by your man!" Go Figure!

For over a dozen years the story of Newt Gingrich presenting his cancer stricken wife with divorce papers has been considered legitimate news, legitimate to discuss, legitimate to demonize Gingrich over, even though his first wife's cancer was NOT terminal and I believe she's still alive. Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. If this story is true, Edwards is a man of extremely poor character and stupid to boot.

The story looks bad. Why did Edwards pay her $115,000 for videos that weren't usable? Who Ok'd that? Who is paying for her to live in a gated community and drive a Mercedes? What kind of money was Edwards paying his former finance director, Mr. Andrew Young? It looks worse than the $400 haircuts for misspending donor money.

The story is coming from somebody close to Rielle Hunter, probably from Rielle Hunter herself and deliberate. Logically, she's got to want his presidential campaign over and done with if he's the father of her baby.

a key owner of the Enquirer is a prominent New York investment banker and one of Hillary Clinton's key backers, Roger Altman. Altman was an official in the first Clinton administration, and his name is often mentioned as a possible Clinton Treasury Secretary.

The investment boutique which Altman founded and chairs, Evercore Partners, bought a controlling stake in American Media, which publishes the Enquirer, in 1999, which it still holds with a partner. Evercore's president, Austin Beutner, sits on American Media's Board of Directors, according to Evercore's website.

I hope that this gets scrubbed away within 24 hours (like it did last time.)
