The National Enquirer has gone political in their most recent issue, alleging that John Edwards has fathered a love-child with a filmmaker who once worked on a series of webisodes for his One America Committee. Rumors of the affair between Edwards and the filmmaker, a 43-year-old divorcee named Rielle Hunter, have been denied by both parties.

Now, as the Enquirer has published photos of a clearly pregnant Hunter, she has gone on the record confirming that she is pregnant but denying that Edwards is the father. She claims that the biological father is Edwards operative Andrew Young, a married man who confirms both his extramarital affair with Hunter and that the baby is his. Hunter, who lived in New York, has recently relocated to a gated community in North Carolina near Young and his family. But, the Enquirer claims that Hunter is privately telling friends that Edwards fathered the baby.

The John Edwards' Love Child Story ought to be subtitled "The Return of Bush's Brain."

Surely James Moore can see it and ferret out more than I can.

Rove left office 3 days after the story surfaced on Page Six... and what's he up to anyway? Oh, I forgot. No fingerprints... ever.

Still...

James, please look into the fun-in-the-city girls and their tenuous NY life-style as aspiring mid-40's wanna-be's: actress/filmmaker Rielle Hunter and, more to the point, her "anonymous friend" - the one getting all those e-mails. Could that be best friend and partner in the 2006-formed R Hunter Productions, one Mimi Hochman... corporate event planner? If so, how appropriate.

Take a look at Mimi's top clients listed on her website...

Motive, opportunity and means! Sounds like a winning combination, a corporate event to top all corporate events. You do the book, I'll do the screenplay.

Developing...

I ask you all this simple question: if some magazine said that you were cheating on your wife, and even got the woman pregnant, what would you do? Would you hide behind your lawyers and spokesmen....or would you immediately come out....in righteous anger, denounce the story and announce that you were suing that rag for $100 million dollars for defamation of character? What would you do? I know....I would too. Edwards has been caught with his pants down.....and his campaign is toast!

I'm shocked that Drudge had some teaser headline about the story with the words "DEVELOPING..." then removed it as if it never had happened. That's odd given Drudge's history of posting links to any prurient story which paints a Democrat in a negative fashion, whether the story's true or not.

While you're at it, Inquirer, why not a story about how Edwards fathered Britney's two children, her sister Jamie Lynne's baby-to-be, and don't forget Christina Aguilera's and Nicole Richey's babies, too. I bet he's the father of Anna Nicole Smith's baby too!

Politics is sure an ugly thing. How did it get this bad? Pathetic.

I doubt the story of an Edwards - Hunter affair. However there is a troublesome aspect causing reluctance to express complete unbelief. Edwards is a Christian that regularly refers to his "faith" in responding to questions. It may be said he does a little bit of "wearing it on his sleeve". Christians that proctice this are frequently then revealed to have indulged in hypocrisy and/or lying. I just hope this situation is regular tabloid garbage and not one more incident of the hyprocrisy/lying circumstance.

If Edwards does not win the Democratic nomination, I'd love to see him sure the National Enquirer for like 1 BILLION dollars. He's such a great trial lawyer that I'm sure he could argue that it cost him the presidency. I'd really like to see a jury somewhere put a damages price tag on losing the presidency. Then he could add on to that house of his and have a bigger war chest in '12 when he tries to run against President Michael Bloomberg.

From the Enquirer:

Rielle loves Edwards and will do anything to protect him, the source says.

Too bad having an abortion didn't occur to her. Nobody HAS to have a baby.

I am really disappointed that this trash is being perpetuated here in what should be, could be a substantive, respectable venue.

Five pages of comments that say virtually the same thing. Is anyone listening there? We really want to have onething we can read and still respect ourselves in the morning.

This story is nothing but trash. Huffington Post should be hanging its head in shame.

Man, is that all they got? A cheap smear?

Oh, yeah, he's rattling their cage. Especially that fat Pedophile bastard, Rush. Pop some more pills, dittodickheads. Your fear is showing.

I'm tellin you, Edwards is gonna shock the world.

What married man, with young kids, do you know of that would step up and admit to this with the child even been born, this my friend does not pass the smell test. The dumbest thing about this is that these dummies moved the woman into the same gated community as Young. Now what married man would readily admit to fathering a child without being accused of being the father, then do the dumb thing as hide the woman away in his own gated community. Why didn’t they just hide her away some place else, bring her to NC in the same community as Young is dumb.

Edwards should have gotten a reputable detective agency to hide this woman away, instead they chose to hide her away themselves. This I say again gentlemen does not pass the smell test.

I wish more people would examine the facts and think with their heads and not their heart. I remember when Bill Clinton was running and he was denying Jennifer Flowers affair, even though I was a Clinton voter, I knew in my heart that Clinton was lying about his many affairs.

This is really over the top...And I don't support Mr.Ed; he's not the right type of politician for these times. But I hope he sues their draws off! He's a lawsuit expert... HP should not have run this unverifiable bs. If it is his child, of course, he's got to cover it up. But without any proof or affirmation from the mother, this is an open and shut case of slander. Though, this will probably end up helping Mr Ed; he's likely to receive some sympathy votes for being unfairly targeted.

Well, HIllary must be heaven. As she said: "This is the fun part."
