If the White House is so certain that the New York Times got it wrong, and the NYT refuses to retract, then my advice to the White House... sue for libel, defammation, or whatever floats their boat.

But wait.. the White House won't do that, because then all of the facts about these torture camps will become a matter of public record.

I just keep remembering Woodward and Bernstein. How many times did the White House deny the veracity of their reporting on the Watergate investigation? They were absolutely right in everything they printed! After all the lies we have been told by the White House, I am MUCH more inclined to believe the NYT reporters! Finally, the Bush White House goes around its noise machines (Fox, Drudge, Rush, et al) and publicly demands a violation of the First Amendment. Ms Perino is really something to watch, a true Orwellian double-speak mouth piece. You may think no one any longer reads the "old gray lady" : Very short sighted. Most local papers utilise the NYT wire service ... So who is this "no one" that no longer reads the old gray lady. Plus which, we forget just how many local papers the NYT and WOPO own outright. Sad to say, notably, the NYT is controlled by this administration. What with moles like Judith Miller, it's reputation has taken a huge hit...Not unlike the BBC (hotting up). This oval office wraps itself in the flag and whispers terrorism to justify it's playing loose w/the facts and coming forth when caught in it's web of lies. So what does one do when caught, attack the messenger and play upon the media as being liars and anti soldiers. And, the main stream electorate will buy into it. After all, this is a "christian administration" and is fighting the "good fight". We live in a world of Supra national corporations and interlocking board rooms w/no allegiance to nationality. What a war, the NYT and BBC both brought to their knees by a war that the majority of the electorate, seemingly, dislikes and wants out of??

As to Ms. Perino"s feigning of taking the article personally, as a shot across her bow, what a real work of art that one. Low rent on her part, surely a big girl like her can handle the truth??

Let the Bush White House prove their innocence in a court of law - not by going after a newspaper with credible sources.

Attacking news outlets for anything critical that they publish is probably un-Constitutional, but that wouldn't stop this cabal from trying.
