White House Demands New York Times Correct Its CIA Story

The White House on Wednesday made a rare public demand for a formal correction from the New York Times for implying that it had misled the US public over the destruction of CIA interrogation videos.

The US Justice Department, the White House, and US lawmakers have all launched probes after CIA chief Michael Hayden revealed earlier this month that the agency in 2005 destroyed tapes of interrogations of two Al-Qaeda suspects.

Hayden said the recordings, made in 2002, were destroyed to protect the identities of CIA agents, but the news outraged lawmakers and human rights groups who charges the agency may be covering up possible torture.

If the White House is so certain that the New York Times got it wrong, and the NYT refuses to retract, then my advice to the White House... sue for libel, defammation, or whatever floats their boat.

But wait.. the White House won't do that, because then all of the facts about these torture camps will become a matter of public record.

This story will die on the vine, just like every other.

I call for the Huffington Post to correct its headline, which was the same call the the White House made to the times.

It wasnt to correct the story - JUST THE HEADLINE...

Your headline implies the story was wrong. IT wasnt. DANG IT

The NYT needs to apologize to us all and stop using the euphemism "interrogation" and use the correct term: American Torture Techniques.

I just keep remembering Woodward and Bernstein. How many times did the White House deny the veracity of their reporting on the Watergate investigation? They were absolutely right in everything they printed! After all the lies we have been told by the White House, I am MUCH more inclined to believe the NYT reporters! Dana Perino lies through her teeth for her lying SOB boss! Good for the NYT! Keep up the pressure and don't back down!!!

Watch the neoconsevative media mislead SHEEPLE into thinking the NYT is on the side of SHEEPLE!
Watch how they throw the big media a "real live CIA torture story made for hollwood" all the while SHEEPLES land is taken and squandered while their eyes are glued to their TV sets...

Watch SHEEPLE forget about the elections, while being spun to do so by the Big medias.

I smell a trial to end all trials.

When is the White House going to apologise for the nearly 4,000 dead soldiers in Iraq? Where were the WMDs? Where was the leadership? Why were we lied to?
The NYT should apologise for allowing themselves to fall into the propaganda trap of this White House.

When she starts licking her lips you know she is not telling the truth, she learned this trait from her boss - Bush, who on most cases should have a drull cup sitting on the podium right underneath him.

I have not read all the comments here, but of the many I have I wonder...

Have any of you read the correction?

"... referred imprecisely to the White House's position thus far on the matter. ... So its role was not 'wider than it said.'"

Big deal.

Will the newspaper demand the White House retract its claims of WMD and African yellow cake, for starters?

Response I would have liked to have seen:

NY Times to White House:

"We stand by our story and will not comment further until the investigations of the Justice Department and Congress have run their course."

Sound familiar Dana?
