The Humane Society of the United States is warning shoppers to be on the lookout for real fur described as faux when shopping at department stores and online retailers this holiday season.

Following up on last winter's HSUS investigation that uncovered a faux fur scandal in the apparel and retail industry, HSUS discovered again this winter that many leading retailers--including Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus, Lord & Taylor, Dillard's, Saks Fifth Avenue and Yoox.com--have not addressed this consumer deception.

Neomonkey: Think about all the hungry and homeless people we could help if people stopped spending thousands of dollars on fur and spent their money on food and (non-animal) clothing for the poor.

And whether you are against fur or not (and I clearly fall strongly in the "against" category), shouldn't we all agree that consumer fraud is just wrong? These companies were called out for their mis-labelling last year, and now they're doing it again. Fur is such a sensitive issue, you would think these retailers would implement policies to ensure all labels were accurate.

Actually Larry278, domestic dog fur is still being used on parkas. Three major retailers were found to be selling dog fur trimmed coats last winter though the labels obviously didn't state that it was dog fur. Dogs and cats kept in horrific conditions are raised and killed for their in China and other Asian countries and the fur is mostly exported to western countries and sold under false labels.

The bottom line is that if you want to avoid fur, be extra careful and only buy from retailers that have fur-free policies.

If you want to wear fur, wear faux fur.

Faux fur is fun while the real thing is just cruel.

If you don't believe that fact, get yourself a license or

permit, a weapon and go hunt the animals on your own.

No wonder some find war acceptable. They don't consider

the victims. When they hear the word Katrina, they

think of water but miss the fact of how many citizens

drowned.

BUY A GOOD WARM FASHIONABLE WOOL COAT.

AND TELL THESE HIGH END LYING RETAILERS TO GO TO HELL!

neomonkey, no one is saying we should neglect the homeless people in order to stop the fur trade. There are a lot of concerns and issues that we as a people can address simultaneously. Also, the scourge of homelessness and the mistreatment and brutalization of animals come from the same motivations and intentions: profit and evil. We need to fight these, no matter what the source, and the colleague. I welcome all, be they Republican, Democrat, Green, Independent, or Apathetic, to come together as human beings to combat our common problems.

"Shoppers should be outraged that companies continue to sell as 'faux' what is actually real fur, perhaps from animals skinned alive in China," said Kristin Leppert, director of The HSUS's fur-free campaign.

Kristin needs to get a grip and stop making up salacious lies. Ooh, let'a feel sorry for the poor dumb animals, never mind homeless people. Shit like this makes me want to vote Republican.

I guess Bloomingdales purchased the coats that were sitting in the corner of Burlington Coat Factories warehouse. After all, its not the quality that matter anymore in the US. Its the price. Status is everything.

Ther was a rumor in the USAF in the 1950s that the fur trim on the hoods of cold weather parkas was dog fur. Was it true or not? The military-industrial complex will do any low & mean thing to make money.

I remember, very sadly, as a small child in the late 50's my mother taking me to the garment district to buy a small swatch of leopard skin to make into a collar for a coat she was sewing for me. Ugh.
Fur is dead, don't you know retailers?????
