Electronics retailer Circuit City Stores Inc. on Friday reported a wider-than-expected loss for the third quarter, driven by lower extended warranty sales and restructuring costs.

Shares of the nation's second biggest consumer electronics retailer tumbled 29 percent in premarket trading.

"We are very dissatisfied with our third-quarter results," said Philip J. Schoonover, chairman, president and chief executive, in a statement. Schoonover said he believes the issues are "primarily self-induced" and within the company's control to improve.

I used to be a loyal Circuit City customer. Since they fired their salespeople, I refuse to even set foot in their stores. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

This is a company which deserves a slow death.

My husband and I bought a VCR there in '96 and when we got home we realized that they had given us the wrong one. The one they gave us was much more expensive. We took it back (hey, we believe in karma, so sue us) and they were seriously rude to us for asking to make the exchange. Their reaction was that we were just causing them extra work for nothing.

We'd rather go to Best Buy and be treated like valued customers than go to CC and be treated as annoyances.

Just after college in 1989 I was hired by CC. Every sales person had at least some college or a degree. We were all sharp.
The company provided paid in depth sales & product training every week called CC University. The stores opened at 10am, so no shift was a killer. We could have a life & work retail, too. I made $32k my first year, which was pretty good for Tampa.
Three years later, I was training kids who made exactly half of what I did for the same sale. CCU was gone & the stores opened at 9am. Working open to close killed. They slowly squeezed the old timers out & I was fired despite having the highest sales volume.
I hear things got worse after I left.

I've never bought a single thing since 1994.

I, and man people I know, have not set foot in Circui Cit since it laid off experienced, higher paid, employees and offered continued employment to them at a lower salary.

Does anyone think this might have something to do with their bottom line.

I don't like the way that when Circuit City puts item on significant sale, they rarely put the sale price on the shelf by the product. It is as if they are trying to hide the sales so that no one will buy anything that the store doesn't make a profit on. The only way to know what is on sale is to look at the fliers (which litter the store and people use them like maps and then discard them). Circuit City will follow CompUSA.

i went to circuit city in willow grove, pa last night with a freind who needed to buy a gps system. The store was run by 16 yr olds who clearly did not care about selling merchandise. When we found the GPS system tht my freind wanted to purchase, it took asking SIX different 'sales associates(?)' and waiting over FIFTEEN minutes to simply get the key to open the cabinet where the units were kept. I tried to get my freind to leave the entire time, so its easy to see why thier sales are swamping. With service like that, they deserve it...

It also doesn't help their bottom line when people like myself refuse to shop there. But that is what you get when you terminate higher than minimum wage long-time employees and hire new people at minimum wage to cut costs. At least they able to give their executives huge salaries and perks now. Sorry Circuit City. You're sleazy and I will never cross your threshold again.

Because the store stinks
and more and more people
are finding out.

You could drop dead in Circuit City
and their staff would walk
over you until the body started to stink.

They personify most of retail
America. Staffed with a bunch of
freaks who can barely dress themselves
let alone make change or wait on
a customer.

Xmas wish?

More bankruptcies of companies that don't
give a damn about customers.

I went to a Circuit City store after the Black Friday morning rush and IMHO there was a lot of unsold inventory.
