During a campaign stop in Iowa today, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee commented on the conditions at the military detention center in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, saying that "the inmates there were getting a whole lot better treatment" than "prisoners in Arkansas." "I hope our guys don't see this," added Huckabee. "They'll all want to be transferred to Guanatanmo."

"If anything, it's too nice," said Huckabee. "The inmates there were getting a whole lot better treatment than my prisoners in Arkansas. In fact, we left saying, 'I hope our guys don't see this. They'll all want to be transferred to Guanatanmo.' If anything, it's too nice."

Here's a question for Biblical-inerrancy Huckabee ... doesn't the Bible forbid working on a Sabbath? Does Huck take off work from campaigning on his Sabbath? The Bible forbids "usury" interest rates, would he back a % max on interest charged by credit card companies? How cross-bearing or hypocritical is ole Huck?

From the mouth behold what's in the heart!

This sadistic piece of work is giving Christianity a really bad name!
Who would be drawn to God by a man who is so full of hatred and lack of compassion for the victims of Guantanamo Concentration Camp.
This man is anti Christ, anti God, he is of his father the devil, by his words he is doing the bidding of Satan. This man has been tested and found wanting, don't let his sadistic hatred destroy you too!

I guess when Mittler said during one of the debates," Close Guantanamo? I think we ought to double it!" he meant so the captives can have more room to play soccer.

Ya gotta love these guys who shout from the rafter that they're Christians, and they are the ones to set the moral standard, then they spout their support of inhumanitarian actions and practices. It would seem to me that these Christians are sounding more like Devil worshippers every day! After all, isn't that the one who's all for the evil, the inhumanity, etc? They should seriously stop looking and God and start looking at Satan to realize that God is becoming more like the bad guy every day!

Guantanano is an ugly stain on America's reputation. Once a nation of laws, now changing laws and messing with the constitution whenever the decider feels like it. Never lecture other countries on human rights, when you have abandoned Habeas Corpus and have candidates for the presidency discussing if waterboarding is torture or not.

I know that many Americans feel bad about the way Guantanamo is handled, my apologies and sympathy to those who know right from wrong.

Conditions at Gitmo aren't bad according to Democratic senators. NYT 2005 "WASHINGTON, June 27 - Senators from both sides of the aisle competed on Monday to extol the humane treatment of detainees whom they said they saw on a weekend trip to the military detention center at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. All said they opposed closing the center.

"I feel very good" about the detainees' treatment, Ron Wyden, Democrat of Oregon, said.

That feeling was also expressed by another Democrat, Ben Nelson of Nebraska.

On Monday, Senator Jim Bunning, Republican of Kentucky, said he learned while visiting Guantánamo that some detainees "even have air-conditioning and semiprivate showers."

Another Republican, Senator Michael D. Crapo of Idaho, said soldiers and sailors at the camp "get more abuse from the detainees than they give to the detainees."

In the last month, several senators, including some Republicans, have suggested that Congress should investigate reports of abuses at the detention center or that the military should close it to remove a blot on the country's image.

One senator, Richard J. Durbin, Democrat of Illinois, has come under criticism and apologized repeatedly for comparing reported abuses at the camps to treatment in Soviet gulags or Nazi concentration camps.

Mr. Wyden and Mr. Nelson were in Cuba primarily to discuss new agricultural trade and visited Guantánamo on Sunday. They ran into Mr. Bunning, Mr. Crapo and Senator Johnny Isakson, Republican of Georgia, who traveled to Guantánamo for the day on Sunday "to see for ourselves what all the so-called fuss is about down there," as Mr. Bunning put it.

After the trip, Mr. Wyden argued that Congress should establish treatment standards for detainees like those at Guantánamo who are neither uniformed members of foreign military forces under the Geneva Conventions nor citizens under the United States justice system."

In contrast, Mr. Crapo praised the current military procedures, calling for a new international standard to cover terrorism suspects and other nonmilitary prisoners.

Huckabee is a JOKE! the universe is only 6000 years old? Rethugs: is this the best you can do? Pathetic.

"right wing Christian" == Oxymoron.

Why do we let these crazies claim they are Christians?

They stand for everything Jesus was against, and they are against everything Jesus was for.

How DARE the claim to be Christians.

See Zeitgiest the movie! It's 3 of the top 100 videos!

All Huckabee is missing is a revival tent, donation bucket and snake oil.

Of course Gitmo is too tame for Huckabee. Just look what he taught his son about torturing animals.

Given that hardly any of the inmates have at Gitmo have been convicted of anything, his comments are further insight into his lack of respect for human rights, rule of law, American standards and principles, etc... Anyone who is held under color of law deserves fundamental respect and should not be treated as if they are already guilty or guilty until proven innocent. Guantanamo was set up specifically to circumvent US law and jurisprudence.
Terrorists are criminals and to treat them as anything more than that lends credibility to their efforts that they don't deserve. For decades the American legal system has been able to capture, try and convict them without special tribunals or anything remotely as draconian as secret prisons, torture or anything else.
France, England and other countries have long lived with the threats and reality of terrorism and have become rather good at capturing and convicting them using their own legal systesms and police force, the US can and should be doing it as well rather than fighting two wars and spending 1.5trillion bucks and failing to catch Osama and his one-legged buddy, Zawahri.
