Three sheriff's department employees, including two supervisors, were disciplined for their handling of last year's drunken-driving arrest of actor-director Mel Gibson, the head of a civilian oversight panel said on Friday.

An independent review of the case, which sparked a furor when Gibson's anti-Semitic remarks to arresting officers were revealed, concluded that actions by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department employees violated agency policy.

Didn't Gibson rant something that boiled down to he owned that town and their collective asses were eventually gonna be his?

True Story: Someone I know was once busted for DUI by this some Sheriff's station, The Lost Hills Sheriffs substation, which patrols Mailibu and has a jail. She was not actually driving at the time because, having realized she was in no shape to drive, she had pulled off the road, parked, and fallen asleep in her car. The Sheriff's deputies rousted her, arrested and jailed her for DUI and held her for about, I am told 12-26 hours. No phone call, No Breathalzer, No Blood Test, No Urine Test. And certainly not the kind of treatment a driving behind the wheel, out of control Mel Gibson got from the same people. These officers deserve the discipline

If Mr. Gibson has such strong feelings, then instead of getting drunk and venting behind the wheel of a car, why doesn't he consider getting drunk and venting in front of a keyboard? He could post anonymously here at Huffpo, and at other such places, and maybe attempt discussions instead of rants. It would sure be a lot safer for the rest of the public.

An aside: I did not think it was in any way useful to portray the British as bloodthirsty barbarians in the movie Mr. Gibson made about the American War of Independence. The movie should have been advertised as fantasy, since there were no historically relevant facts to back up what he showed in the movie, other than the fact that yes, there was indeed a war.
If anything, a powerful argument can be made that Americans behaved more gruesomely toward the British than how they behaved towards Americans.

Mel Gibson used to hang at Barney's Beanery a lot.
He was always drunk. Bareny's Beanery had his infamous signs all over saying "fags keep out."
They took them down when West Hollywood became a gay -run city. Mel stopped coming there.
P.S. Can this rich bum hire a limo or a cab when he's drunk.

Mel's Apology. It's good enough for everyone involved:

"There is no excuse, nor should there be any tolerance, for anyone who thinks or expresses any kind of anti-Semitic remark. I want to apologize specifically to everyone in the Jewish community for the vitriolic and harmful words that I said to a law enforcement officer the night I was arrested on a DUI charge.

"The tenets of what I profess to believe necessitate that I exercise charity and tolerance as a way of life. Every human being is God"s child, and if I wish to honor my God I have to honor his children. But please know from my heart that I am not an anti-Semite. I am not a bigot. Hatred of any kind goes against my faith.

"I"m not just asking for forgiveness. I would like to take it one step further, and meet with leaders in the Jewish community, with whom I can have a one-on-one discussion to discern the appropriate path for healing.

"I have begun an ongoing program of recovery and what I am now realizing is that I cannot do it alone. I am in the process of understanding where those vicious words came from during that drunken display, and I am asking the Jewish community, whom I have personally offended, to help me on my journey through recovery.

"Again, I am reaching out to the Jewish community for its help. I know there will be many in that community who will want nothing to do with me, and that would be understandable. But I pray that that door is not forever closed.

"This is not about a film. Nor is it about artistic license. This is about real life and recognizing the consequences hurtful words can have. It's about existing in harmony in a world that seems to have gone mad."

"What do you think you're looking at sugar tits?"

...Mel Gibson

There's just some bizarre profundity to that drunken, chauvinistic remark.

Interesting times that we live in, so MUCH
of Hollywierd is politically attuned these days
so maybe that's why they had to have the
'writer's strike'...I don't care what fell out
of his mouth, if he was hitting the sauce
and then getting behind the wheel, that's
Bad Medicine. Put the ethanol in the GAS
tank, not in the OPERATOR...Mel should make
another Mad Max movie where people learn how
to make their own fuel at home.
"It's the last of the v-8 interceptors!" LOL
It's all about the JUICE!

Some useless facts:

Gibson recently topped the BeliefNet.com list of Most Powerful Christians in Hollywood.

Forbes still ranks him as a more influential celebrity than George Clooney. Really? Shocking. I didn't realize. Blockbuster employees are powerful.

"Let the powerful win". Little people need not try to make things right !

This is the motto of Bush/Cheney/Mel, just as corrupt as a third world country, these people look down to.
Forgive me, actually this is an insult to the TW country !

OK, so the lesson is you can refer to someone as Jewish if you are speaking well of them or if they like you but you CANNOT refer to someone as Jewish if you are NOT speaking well of them or if they do NOT like you.

If you are Jewish you can just refer to everyone who is NOT Jewish as goy and no matter whether you're speaking well of them or not you may say anything you like without reproach.

Do you get it now, Mel, you racist goy pig?

While not condoning Gibson's anti-semtism, the "look how clean we are" attitude of that civilian review panel is ridiculous when they just skipped over the deliberate "leaking" of the details of Gibson's arrest and comments to the media.

I can't stand the hypocrisy; when a governmental agency interacts with you, they don't hesitate to "leak" or even post the details on their "official" website.

Yet when you as a citizen and a member of the public want to look at their records because you suspect wrong-doing, you are simply denied at best, and at worst end up on their unofficial "harass on sight" list.
