Washington Wire arrived unannounced at Ron Paul's Des Moines nerve center to see if all that money the Texas Republican raised online is being put to work. (The ticker on RonPaul2008.com says he's brought in an astonishing $18,562,013.34 this quarter).

It will be tough at this late date for Paul to create the kind of ground organization that his rivals have been setting up for months. But his folks are trying. The Paul campaign, which polls in the single digits here, has pumped up its paid Iowa staff and is recruiting chairmen for the state's 99 counties. But his biggest assets are his passionate followers - college kids inspired by his blunt, anti-war, anti-establishment, anti-abortion conservatism

"Simply put, freedom is the absence of government coercion. Our Founding Fathers understood this, and created the least coercive government in the history of the world. The Constitution established a very limited, decentralized government to provide national defense and little else. States, not the federal government, were charged with protecting individuals against criminal force and fraud. For the first time, a government was created solely to protect the rights, liberties, and property of its citizens. Any government coercion beyond that necessary to secure those rights was forbidden, both through the Bill of Rights and the doctrine of strictly enumerated powers. This reflected the founders' belief that democratic government could be as tyrannical as any King.

Few Americans understand that all government action is inherently coercive. If nothing else, government action requires taxes. If taxes were freely paid, they wouldn't be called taxes, they'd be called donations. If we intend to use the word freedom in an honest way, we should have the simple integrity to give it real meaning: Freedom is living without government coercion. So when a politician talks about freedom for this group or that, ask yourself whether he is advocating more government action or less."

In my crystal ball I see an influx of $18 mil into the coffers of the Libertarian Party between Feb 6th and May (when Libertarians make their endorsement.)
Paul stated he WOULD NOT run if he loses the Republican Nomination....he LIED.
Feb 6th Ron Paul won't place in the top 4 candidates of ANY STATE. NOT ONE.
I will be here laughing my queer A$$ off at the sad little Ron Paul tards, who gave their whole allowance to his cause.

It'll be better than watching Rick (anal leakage) Santorum CRY along with his fugly children ....Wednesday and Pugsley.

Would anyone like to speak on Misinformed2s acclaims?

I only knew what ruPaul was about from reading and sound bites, so I sucked it up and watched Spin Beck the other night. First of all, even though Spin has often come out against Paul's ideology, he was his usual total suck up last night and agreed with Paul on everything...
But the main point is after watching an hour of paul and beck , besides trying to decide if I should puke or slit my wrist, I was totally amazed of what a total pile of crap Rue Paul is.

As a Progressive social Libertarian I find many of pauls proposals excellent.
We need a President(and Congress for that matter) who maximize freedom of the Individual.
The two difficulties I see with pauls positions are His is for forced birth...that is anti-freedom,is not Libertarian and non-of the business of anyone but the potential mother.
the second and more complex is the Fiscal Libertarian point and neoCON repub point that there are Free markets.
Big Business NEEDs to be regulated and refereed by a government Free from any big business influence.
It is like Frank Zappa ( a real freedom fighting Libertarian progressive ) said. The ones who own the raw materials are the real leaders, the ones who actually call the shots.
They get the control of mines, forests etc through government influence.
Big business has a loud voice in government and it will stomp all over individual Americans and destroy American freedom for the individual even more than Reagan, Clinton, Nixon and most especially Bush enabled by Congress have done.
The Free market is a myth. Money will always have a louder voice and more power unless government is free from its influence and plays referee and regulator.
The so called Free market of today is creating a new feudal system and is as far from Free as the Red Chinese communists who Americans empower with every made in China product they buy.

As I see it, getting this anti-government libertarian out of Congress and into the White House is a good thing for libertarians and progressives alike.

We both want to see the Executive restored to what James Madison considered the (slightly) weaker of the three branches. There's no way that a President Ron Paul could use the bully pulpit to push his domestic agenda through Congress. His influence would be largely limited to foreign policy and administration, which I believe would be mostly positive.

As long as his administration faithfully executes the intent of Congress, for example not ignoring its various mandates for consumer and environmental protections, it would be okay with me. I'd prefer a Paul/Kucinich ticket for balance, but I think that might be a leap of faith in our ability to compromise.

In the image above, Paul looks like a slightly slimmed-down version of the near-sighted cartoon character "Mr. Magoo".

Without the voice of Jim Backus.

If Paul's supporters just want something other than the two major parties we currently have, I'm all in favor of it, minus Ron Paul.

If Paul's supporters just want Ron Paul to be president, they're masochistic and uninformed.

The fact that the Neocons and lobby loving Democrats fear his message makes me respect him. He and Kucinich are the only two candidates that let you vote your conscience.

Why is this guy so popular with college students?
You can't drive by any campus w/out seeing a crapload of homemade Paul signs on the overpasses.

Merry Christmas for those who do, Happy holidays for those who don't. Be safe in your travels all of you

LBNL: obviously the linked story is meant to discourage anti-war progressives from considering Ron Paul--I realize the extreme positions he takes may appeal to conservatives.
