The Bucket List

New York Times:

Rob Reiner decided he wanted to direct "The Bucket List" after reading just 10 pages into the screenplay, when a character is asked what he's doing in a hospital bed and matter-of-factly answers, "Oh, fighting for my life -- you?"

The hard part for Mr. Reiner was persuading Warner Brothers to let him do it.

The filmmaker of 1980s hits like "When Harry Met Sally ... " and "This Is Spinal Tap," Mr. Reiner hasn't had a commercial or critical success as a director since "The American President" in 1995 -- a lifetime in Hollywood.

But what Warner Brothers balked at, he said, was the story of "The Bucket List," which stars Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman and opens on Christmas.

No this is really a great little film - and Nicholson deserves another Oscar mention for his role. He is incredibly funny and a keeper for your personal film library. I'm just a fan, not associated with any studio.

I think Rob may have something here. Due to being a member of one of the national guilds I received a screener DVD of the film. I was really quite impressed and moved.

But even more, when I started up the disc, my 13-year-old daughter wandered in, sat down and watched. She had no idea who Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman, Rob Reiner or anyone else associated with the movie were, but she loved it. She's talked it up among her friends, and they all plan on seeing it when it comes to theaters here in central New Jersey.

And, in case you're wondering if I'm a shill, no I have nothing to do with the movie, the studio, or anyone involved.

It's a good movie, and great to see Reiner back at the top of his game.
