'Recount' To Remind Moviegoers How Much Fun The 2000 Election Was

stumbleupon :'Recount' To Remind Moviegoers How Much Fun The 2000 Election Was   digg: 'Recount' To Remind Moviegoers How Much Fun The 2000 Election Was   reddit: 'Recount' To Remind Moviegoers How Much Fun The 2000 Election Was   del.icio.us: 'Recount' To Remind Moviegoers How Much Fun The 2000 Election Was

If there's one thing that moviegoers have made clear, it's that if Hollywood intends to green-light white papers from wonky think tanks and flesh them out with a performance from Meryl Streep, they are going to stay home in droves. But since there's no end in sight to politically-themed entertainment, at least one purveyor of such filmic wares understands that there's been a missing ingredient: fun. That's what HBO is promising with their upcoming feature, Recount, which...uhm--recounts the Florida endgame of the 2000 election between Bush and Gore.

And what a delightful time that was for the nation! One can imagine several fun scenes from the movie. There was that hilarious part when the GOP shipped in Potemkin protesters to inject some much needed British soccer hooliganism into the proceedings. Or that moment in the Supreme Court where William Rehnquist had to remind Gore's lawyer, David Boies, that he might want to attempt some kind of push-back on Bush's equal protection claim, seeing as how it was the centerpiece of their case. Speaking of, here's hoping that the filmmakers include scenes that took place after the Supreme Court case that show what super BFFs Boies was with Bush's lawyer Ted Olson! Why, those two just can't stop attending each others' weddings and hosting book-signing parties for one another - which is exactly what you'd expect of the two people who opposed one another in court on the case that rent the body politic in twain!

I guess it's like they say: Tragedy plus time divided by 9/11 minus an endless, intractable war in Iraq that our grandchildren will be paying for equals comedy. Har dee har!

As a star in the upcoming movie.....yeah right....I did get to speak to both Kevin Spacey about returning to London and the 'Old Vic' and also to Ed Begley who commended me for my performance. Actually it was with a sweeping arm to all the extra's being court onlookers or in my case court reporter. I was stood behind Ed for many retakes of the Supreme Court Fiasco done from ten different camera positions including three feet from Spaceys nostrils. I used my eyes and scribbled at all the right moments so maybe the phone will ring soon as it did for my 'part'. I sent in a pic and was 'chosen' whereas many in Jax went to auditions. It was fun and you should look out for the beared Brit with nothing on top in the first row to the rear of the rail of the main court area. It was completely built in a hangar at Cecil Field which was clever. 7am till 4pm for $75 bucks and Kevin spoke not a work for a little more no doubt?

The Supreme Court used to be the last very respected American institution. Now it is a farce. Rabid conservativism reduces all branches of government to political expediency.

As with all things political, the general stupidity of the general public in America is always, and should be, fair game for comedic cynicism. The Bush neo-con presidency has shown the failure of our educational system to provide people with the tools to draw logical, reasonable conclusions from information presented to them.

The mere fact that Bush was able to garner ANY support to become president reveals an intellectual void within America"s social fabric that will most likely continue its downward trend into a total "Idiocracy". In some ways, it seems all we can do at this point is laugh about it, and mourn our loss.

Dear Huffington Post -

Please, no more nauseating pictures of the corrupt political criminal, Katherine Harris.

I'm sure I'm not alone with this request?

The sight of that disgrace to representative democracy is enough to toss one's lunch and reduce the libido.

Thanks

I think Hollywood political movies are crap.
Save one. Robin Williams did a good job with
Man Of The Year. That was a lot of fun. It
also speaks directly to all of this sunshine
we're watching today.

'Honest politician'=ultimate oxymoron. Kind
of like 'military intelligence', apparently.

surely Laura Dern isn't playing Harris. If she is, they'd better to a better job on her makeup.

God is there an uglier woman alive? Yikes.

Let's hope that a little truthiness will be there and that brilliant thinkers in America won't be too confused by it.

And poor, poor Theresa LePore and her so, so badly designed butterfly ballet! I think of her often -- drawn and haggard; not so fondly now that I know she used to be a Republican and should probably really be drawn and quartered.

Ain't we got fun?
