With the popularity of traditional lotteries waning across the country, many states are turning to instant games priced at $20, $30 and as high as $50 to lure new players and raise revenue.

Scratch-off tickets, for example, now account for more than 75 percent of lottery sales in Texas, which this year became the first state to introduce a $50 scratch-off game.

But critics in Texas and elsewhere say games promising this kind of instant gratification are more likely to contribute to the kind of problem gambling that is usually associated with fast-paced casino betting, and they are now trying to limit them.

Ah, the false hope of the failing US. Time was here in the United States when people would sit around and talk about if they only could get that job at a certain company, obtain their dream job, they would be happy and set for life. But , our wonderful Capitalist with the aid of their hired politicians ruined all of that by moving jobs over seas, lowering wages, and completely removing all company/employee loyalty relationship. The company doesnt care about the employee as much as they would a machine. They are just a tool to make the company money. So , then the employee gave up on loyalty to the company. So now people sit around talking about how happy they would be , what they would do, and how they would be set for life if they could just win the lottery.
False hope to keep the masses happy. Mexico has had the lottery for years more than the US, and its starting to lose its power to induce false delusions of hope for its citizens. The same will happen in the US. Probably will take longer as we may have a more educated citizen than Mexico on the whole, but we have a much dumber citizen than Mexico on the whole. We are all too self centered and greedy to worry about what will happen. As long as we see our own little lives as being ok, we will keep our blinders on and feel content while our neighbors suffer. ITs the American way.
