The Huffington Post has learned that, in a move bound to create controversy, the New York Times is set to announce that Bill Kristol will become a weekly columnist in 2008. Kristol, a prominent neo-conservative who recently departed Time magazine in what was reported as a "mutual" decision, has close ties to the White House and is a well-known proponent of the war in Iraq. Kristol also is a regular contributor to Fox News' Special Report with Brit Hume.

Update: The New York Times has confirmed the decision to hire Kristol.

My god, what are they doing? Are they going to also keep David Brooks on? Have they lost their freaking minds? Who the hell is running the paper now? But what the hey, I never read the NYT anymore anyway. When I was much younger and dragged about Europe, I'd oft spend time ferreting out copies of the paper. Those were BP days; before Pinch! O brave new world!

It would almost be tolerable if the NYT had made a choice indicating they were making a conservative turn. But to choose this neocon--this imperialist ideologue who has turned out to be wrong on some many matters regarding the Middle East that if he had made his predictions simply by flipping a coin he would have had a better record for accuracy--well, it indicates that the NYT hasn't merely made a bad choice but a dumb, irresponsible and indefensible one as well.

The NYT was the primary newspaper agitating for an attack on Iraq following 9/11.

What else do you expect. Print media is dying. And of course those of you railing the loudest will greedily glom up Kristolisms weekly, all your protests not withstanding. The marketing guru's at the Times know this and so do you in your heart of hearts. Like the rats they are, they are all running for cover now. They know whats coming and they are assuring themselves leverage positions to effect maximum destruction to an already weakened and staggering Federal government. It works for them.
Dis information in the so called "information age" all enabled by a media that profits now only from adversarial confrontation.

I used ot be a devoted reader of the New York Times, but that all began to change with its over-commercialization and, worse, its tilt toward anti-Arab reporters like Judith Miller. Now they have brought WILLIAM KRISTOL?

WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?

Of all level-headed conservatives, why him?

I'm disgusted

I just wrote the subscription section and advised them that if they do this, to cancel my subscription immediately, and if they call me, I will report them as an illegal phone call based on the do not call registry.

Kristol is a dangerous individual. Despite being wrong on everything pertaining to Iraq he's now calling for a world war against Iran.

Why does the NYT continue to give these right wing psychos/hacks/propagandists an avenue to spread their garbage? Do we need another Judith Miller?

In a just world, Bill Kristol would have to spend the rest of his life changing bedpans at Walter Reed.
