Bill Kristol To Become New York Times Columnist In 2008

The Huffington Post has learned that, in a move bound to create controversy, the New York Times is set to announce that Bill Kristol will become a weekly columnist in 2008. Kristol, a prominent neo-conservative who recently departed Time magazine in what was reported as a "mutual" decision, has close ties to the White House and is a well-known proponent of the war in Iraq. Kristol also is a regular contributor to Fox News' Special Report with Brit Hume.

Update: The New York Times has confirmed the decision to hire Kristol.

My god, what are they doing? Are they going to also keep David Brooks on? Have they lost their freaking minds? Who the hell is running the paper now? But what the hey, I never read the NYT anymore anyway. When I was much younger and dragged about Europe, I'd oft spend time ferreting out copies of the paper. Those were BP days; before Pinch! It would almost be tolerable if the NYT had made a choice indicating they were making a conservative turn. But to choose this neocon--this imperialist ideologue who has turned out to be wrong on some many matters regarding the Middle East that if he had made his predictions simply by flipping a coin he would have had a better record for accuracy--well, it indicates that the NYT hasn't merely made a bad choice but a dumb, irresponsible and indefensible one as well.
