It is rare to have John Edwards go straight after Barack Obama, so the speech he is planning to give today is noteworthy. Here's the key excerpt:

Why on earth would we expect the corporate powers and their lobbyists -- who make billions by selling out the middle-class -- to just give up just because we ask nicely? Nobody who takes their money and defends the broken system is going to bring change. And, unfortunately, nobody who thinks we can just sit down and talk them into compromise is going to bring change either.
Compromise and conciliation is the academic theory of change. It just doesn't work in the real world. Fighting for conviction is the historic reality of change.

Unfortunately, in our system, lawyers are the one most intimate and most able to bring about change in our laws. For Edwards to take on lobbyists with deep pockets and deeper influence, battling against the best of lawyers and walking away with huge judgements says more about his real-world experience than Obama's sophomoric academic theories.

The old saying goes something like 'Those who can't, teach'.

Face it, without lobbyists, nobody would've heard of Obama. It is probabaly true for almost all the candidates. But Edwards, once elected, would be working for American people with the same wisdom and vengence when he worked for his law firm. It's real-world experience as far as I'm concerned.

In your real world, no experience means anything unless it means your favorite candidate, obviously Obama, wins the nomination. They say love is blind, I didn't know politics is also.

Great, Mr. Edwards, thank you for standing up against the health care lobby. Now, how about standing up against the legal lobby?

(crickets chirping)

Okay, how about creating policies that prevent frivolous lawsuits and lawsuit abuse?

(more crickets)

I guess in Mr Edwards' "real world", you take money from one special interest in order to thwart another.

Go Obama!
