In a wide-ranging, free-wheeling interview with Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards with ABC News Friday afternoon, the former North Carolina senator labeled "ridiculous" comments made by the Obama campaign that seemed to link former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's assassination to Sen. Hillary Clinton's vote to authorize the use of force against Iraq, embraced Sen. Barack Obama's politics over Clinton's, and said an anti-Obama flier from a pro-Clinton union was "misleading" and "deceptive."

Edwards also detailed his conversation with Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf from Thursday in which he told that country's leader he needs to allow "independent international inspectors into Pakistan to determine the facts of what happened around the former prime minister's assassination. That kind of transparent process is the only way there's going to be any credibility."

It is amazing how people have been deceived by the New Version of Senator Edwards.

Senator Edwards claims that he is more electable because he is going to win the South/Red States when in the evidence shows that he never even carried his home state in the 2004 election? Just which southern state will he carry?

Senator Edwards claims to fight for the working people against unfair trade deals when he has actually voted for these same bills in the US Senate.

Senator Edwards claims to fight for poor people then he turns around and purchases a huge mansion with very extensive grounds.

Senator Edwards claims to now be against huge multinational coorporation when he has invested in the same hedge funds that have not only penalized people but have also re-possesed their property.

Senator Edwards now claims to be against Iraq War when his is one of the democratic votes that got us into this war to start with.

Senator Edwards claims he is now against huge money in politics when he tried so hard to raise the same amount of money and only remembered public financing as a way to get round the system. Now he claims that he is all for public financing.

I am trully amazed at how people can be so guillible by phony populist politicians.

When this tragedy occured the Democratic candidate delt with it respectfully, and I could envision future leaders and feel proud about our candidates. Well that is other than Obama who tried to spin some of Hillary's votes to being responsible for Bhutto's death. When Hillary, Biden, Edwards, and Dodd looked like leaders Obama was politicizing the tragedy. It was absolutely shameless. Obama's understanding of foreign policy issues is frankly pathetic for someone who's a so called top tier candidate.

Maybe the Populist Prince of Neverland Ranch (28,000 sq.feet!!) should think twice before he throws stones. At least he admits being wrong on the most important foreign policy decision of our generation (unlike Senator Clinton).

Edwards CALLED Musharraf? On the phone? And got through? Did anyone notice this? Did Bush call him? I'm not sure, but I don't think he did or that any of the other candidates did so. I'm amazed... Edwards not only knows how to lead, he's already doing it.

American presidential candidates from left and right can pretend to know what is really going on inside Pakistan, but the Pakistanis inside Pakistan know these presidential candidates are just hallucinating.

Is it not childish and foolish for an American presidential candidate to blame a fellow presidential candidate for causing the assassination of Ms. Benazir Bhutto, because she voted in support of the war in Iraq?
This guy apparently does not know the political history Pakistan and is ignorant of the facts on political assassinations in Pakistan even before he left Harvard Law School.

It is just incredible that someone who claims to have a better judgment on American Foreign Policy could be so ignorant of the realities in Pakistan.
Oh, my God!

At a time when other campaigns are grasping at headlines to generate attention for themselves, John Edwards is providing a statesman-like measure of calm assurance.

US interests in Pakistan, unfortunately, are to keep the current power structure, as they are still the best guarantor of keeping nukes away from the even more crazy crazies.

Edwards is right here.

"We have seen what happen in the Musharraf government, he has told us he does not have enough control of those eastern borders near Afghanistan to be able go after the terrorists."...Huck

Meaning the eastern border of Afghanistan right?
That's how I read it then I found the grammar police at the Atlantic think it is a mistake.

If Hillary said it, it would be brilliant.

dismissing a theory, analysis, idea, as "ridiculous" without any support or counter-arguments borders on the ad hominem, and is a sign of a shallow and uncurious intellect.

I don't trust Edwards because of this. I have seen too much of it, the unskeptical parrotting of mainstream media falsities.

Huffpo is a tabloid, live with it. USA Today is getting rich, and the NYT is selling out. The high circulation dailys just bribed the post office to put the rates unfairly on periodicals with content
and subsidize those heavy with advertising.

America is dumbing down. I would go to www.theatlantic.com, but it is a subscription site
and I won't pay for the truth. I can read it free at the library.

Getoffmedz, you are so right about the facts surrounding her assassination. They claimed to have already completed a full investigation and are now blaming it on Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. Oh how convienent! They will say anything in order to keep Musharraf in power and to make Bush seem justified in his thinking and actions on the Middle East. I don't understand how you can find out so many facts about someone's death within 24 hours. That type of detective work should be available to us so that we can solve the many crimes we have here.
