"We have the evidence that al-Qaida and Taliban were behind the suicide attack on Benazir Bhutto," Interior Minister Hamid Nawaz said.

Interior Ministry spokesman Javed Iqbal Cheema said that on Friday, the government recorded an "intelligence intercept" in which militant leader Baitullah Mehsud "congratulated his people for carrying out this cowardly act."

Curiouser and curiouser...
Hmmm...Sherlock, who benefits the most? AQ and the Talis? Sure. Bushies? Yah. Gen/Pres Mush? Yeah...The Huckster? Probably. The list goes on and on. Or is it so simple no one will ever accept the truth?

Who else but Pervez Musharraf stood to gain so much, so soon?

Total control, plus more US aid.

If al Qaeda and the Taliban assassinated Bhutto, won't that force Musharraf to crack down on his wild northwestern provinces where the Taliban, al Qaeda, and extremists run wild?
Which is exactly what the U.S. wants for its billions flung Musharraf's way.
That it appears to tally with U.S. interest does not mean it's false. If al Qaeda/Taliban did this, though, it will drive up popular support for rooting them out. And it works to keep everyone happy with Musharraf- the people mourning and rioting apropos Bhutto's death, his U.S. patrons, any elements in the ISI who now have a plausible suspect other than them (and their strongman, of course), etc., etc.

That's funny, Benazir's husband and family have steadily, categorically refuted any and all Al Qaeda involvement in assassination attempts against her.

I guess that now tells us who's actually behind it and why.

What evidence? This sounds like total bs to me! Like the post by wiredwilly, she said that if she was assassinated Musharef would be responsible. Why isn't that played 24/7 by the whore media?

Well they are wrong in one aspect, she was not shot, but hit her head. So technically Al Qaida did not do it.

The experts I listened to on NPR earlier today said it was most likely the Taliban.

Beware of the Al-Qaeda/Taliban connection. It is thin, at best.

Odd, the eMail Ms. Bhutto sent to CNN's Wolf Blitzer to be read
if she were assassinated said that Musharraf was to blame.

Does that mean it wasn't the Bushies/terrorwar group setting up Bhutto to put her within easy reach of the Musharrif/terrorwar operatives? What a relief! I was afrad that the administration was actually getting into "planning".
