West Wing Martin Sheen Joins Richardson On Campaign Trail

The Iowa Caucus campaign already has plenty of real presidential candidates.

Now it's getting a fictional president and another Hollywood celebrity as the politicking heads into the home stretch.

Actor Martin Sheen, who portrayed President Josiah Bartlet in the NBC television drama series "The West Wing," is coming to Iowa on behalf of Democrat Bill Richardson.

He is scheduled to appear with Richardson at campaign events on Sunday in Des Moines and Fort Dodge, and on Monday in Ames. All three events will be open to the public.

I'm delighted Martin Sheen has announced his support for Bill Richardson and will work in his behalf. From the first, I've supported Richardson and I think he is the finest choice for President.

Why can't we have a real president that's half as good as the fictional one on The West Wing?

In my opinion, Richardson is a weak candidate, but I respect Martin Sheen for supporting his choice. I'm for Hillary Clinton. Her years of experience and her grasp of world affairs is especially vital to our country and to the world, in these perilous times.

Personally I think Richardson is the last really credible candidate left in either party.
