Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has strongly hinted for the first time that she could write an eighth book in the series.

Rowling, 42, admits she has 'weak moments' when she feels she will pen another novel about the boy wizard.

One of her biggest fans - her 14-year-old daughter Jessica - has already put pressure on her to revisit the character.

Maybe it's time for Rowlings to move away from the Harry Potter series -- and rather, develop an entirely new set of characters with an entirely new and different story line/s.

If she's got half of the imagination, creativity with her writing as she's demostrated with The Harry Potter series, then she should be able to build herself another empire -- with a whole new series again a set of new characters.

She can always go back to Hogwart gang years from now for the 'last' book on them -- though, I get the sense that that she just can't stop herself, and that there's never actually going to be the last/final Harry Potter book.

I think reading is a good thing, and if JK Rowling is up to extending her tales of Hogwarts, more power to her. Science Fiction & Fantasy has a long tradition of long series, extended as the authors wanted to tell the tales, needed the money, or were forced to produce by contract. I love it that kids ... and adults ... dive into the latest Harry Potter and don't come up for air until the final page. It's great. And, not to grind on a personal grudge or anything, anything that can send the fundie preachers into apoplexy is fine by me.

don't extend the story line. It ended in the seventh.

Do something creative like another story line budded off the series 1.

Action adventure. Now the poor kid playing Potter maybe type-cast ya think?

Poor thing. Maybe he will survive this...

Ugh.

Go for it.

Rowling actually succeeds in making the kids want to read.

Hey, she's gotta pay the bills. Either she writes another book or she bags groceries at Safeway.

I say do a prequel. Do Harry's folks, when they met, the battles, before Harry was born and when he was very young.

Harry got my kids reading. Thanks!
