Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has widened his lead in Iowa over Hillary Clinton and John Edwards heading into Thursday's nominating caucuses, according to The Des Moines Register's final Iowa Poll before the 2008 nominating contests.

Obama's rise is the result in part of a dramatic influx of first-time caucusgoers, including a sizable bloc of political independents. Both groups prefer the Illinois senator in what has been a very competitive campaign.

I was just over at DailyKos, Kos himself wrote:

"You know, I was going to vote for Obama and even announced that a week or so ago. But this is a great example of why it's best to wait and see how things shake out. Not being blinded by candidate worship, it's easier to sniff out the bullshit. And you have to have your head stuck deep in the sand to deny that Obama is trying to close the deal by running to the Right of his opponents. And call me crazy, but that's not a trait I generally appreciate in Democrats, no matter how much it might set the punditocracy's hearts a flutter.

I don't get to vote for another month, so we'll see how the next four weeks go. Certainly none of these guys have earned my vote yet.

Amazingly enough, none of them walk on water, no matter what their frenzied supporters might think."

I need to repeat that last, NONE of them walk on water, not Kucinich, not Obama, none of them.

I really think of the partisans who generally post here, the least hysterical are the Clintonistas and the Edwardians.

Go ahead, snipe at Edwards. He is the most populist of the candidates with a chance to gain the nomination. Make your infantile comments about his hair, who cares?

Mr. 3% Kucinich can do nothing more than nudge the conversation to the left, which is fine.

When Benazir Bhutto was assassinated, the presidential candidates rushed to exploit the tragedy to score cheap political points. But I am surprised that none of them is making statements of the bloody mayhem in Kenya after the presidential election.
Even Senator Barack Obama whose father was Kenyan has not said anything on how to address the political crisis.

Right now, Senator Barack Hussein Obama should be more concerned about the post election mayhem in his fatherland, Kenya.

As Kenya is burning, what is Obama saying?

His uncles and half-brothers of the same Hussein Obama family are in danger in Kenya.

The situation in Kenya should be more important to Obama than the crisis in Pakistan.

I wonder if the Obamanistas are sufficiently aware as to be concerned with Obama's attacks of his fellow Democrats FROM THE RIGHT?

It really should give the Puritans pause, at least, even if Saint Dennis has cast his lonely eyes on Barack.

Happy New Year everyone!!!

I for one hold no credance to any of the polls that come out of Iowa. However, I must say it is refreshing that Obama is leading, but I would not bet on it. With tht said the Dem race is the most exciting race. The Repukes are lost in the wilderness and cursed to wander around for the next forty uears thanks to dubya.

I won'y be posting regularly in the next couple of hours because I must watch my home team in the Rose Bowl.

Go Fighting Illini

Go Obama

Barak the Vote Jan 3

Fired up and Ready to go!

Next step is for HuffPo to outrightly and blatantly endorse Obama to keep the Obama's ad money rolling in. HuffPo has no credibility.

Edwards for President!!!

This poll is based on pure speculation all the polling that have been done recently show a different result. I would caution all the obama heads on the obamapost.com aka the huffingtonpost.

All the pollsters, all the pundits and all the hysterical headline writers should just take a chill pill and wait another 2 days and the polls in Iowa won't mean anything anymore ... just as they don't mean a darned thing today. Let the people vote. Count the votes. Then get hysterical over the results. All this prognosticating got old months ago. The proof is not in the polling, it's in the voting.

Wolf just asked Ed HOW he would fight big biz, and--guess what?--he Bo Jangled around the question. He discussed the ills of greedy corporations and what needs to be done, but as close he came to answering it was : "This is a longer process. I have to get the American people behind me..." Like a slick car salesman trying to explain why you need that guaranteed lifetime wax treatment. I'll give him this: he knows how to work a jury with passion. He sounds exactly like he's doing a summation in a courtroom.

Wow, hip-hip-hooray for ONE poll!

LoL

I'm sure if we dig deep enough, we can find ONE poll that supports 'each' candidate.

Even if this poll is correct and Obama wins the 1st round in Iowa, will all the caucus goers who aren't voting for him as their 'second choice', lead him to victory???

Let's see the poll of whom Iowa voters will vote for, for their SECOND choice. Or maybe, that's a poll that Huffington Post doesn't want you to see? -No, I don't have a link. It's too close to call in Iowa.

Gee, it must really piss-off the Obama-Rama, knowing that after all the money spent on Obama banner ads at HuffPost, it didn't really help his campaign. Hmmmmm, what exactly happened to all those cheesy campaign banner ads for 'Mr. Talk?'

Edwards '08!

Go Dems! I'd vote for a Dead Yellow Dog if it ran against the Repubs of the Dubya Era. The Repubs must pay for Dubya - it should be another forty years before they re-take the US House. And at least eight years before America considers another Repub POTUS. They must pay for Dubya and the price must be high.
