Huckabee Compares Iran Intelligence To Gossip About Britney Spears

In an interview with the Quad-City Times yesterday, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee tried to make excuses for his lack of foreign policy knowledge and his ignorance on the most recent National Intelligence Estimate on Iran. He compared the NIE to gossip about Britney Spears, saying he just can't "keep up with every single thing":

The point I'm trying to make is that, on the campaign trail, nobody's going to be able, if they've been campaigning as hard as we have been, to keep up with every single thing, from what happened to Britney last night to who won "Dancing with the Stars."

Huckabee missed the whole point. He was comparing two divergent situations. (I would say comparing apples to oranges but they both have the commonality of being fruit.) Celebrity gossip is unimportant and of no consequence. On the other hand, the NIE impacts the lives of millions of people, and if misconstrued could have dire results (i.e. Bush). Instead of rectifying his mistake and reading it so that he could impart to the reporters his understanding and knowledge of the report at a later date, he makes a totally lame analogical comparison. Heaven help us if this man gets elected. This country will go from the proverbial frying pan into the fire.

Just when I was thinking that the Republicans might have one candidate who is intelligent and articulate (I was willing to give him a freebie for the evolution thing), not to mention one who is not a complete sub-human, Huckabee proves he is no better than any of the other clowns running for the GOP candidacy. I almost feel sympathy for anyone who has to vote in Republican primaries.

again, he seems perturbed at making a little effort. he could easily get RSS britney news from google as well as numerous fansites. with the vast communications resources of the campaigns, gov. huckabee has no excuse for not keeping up with britney news. he may be commander in chief one day.

I do not care what Britney did or who won on any of the damn shows like dancing with the stars. However I am intersted in current affairs such as Iran, Korea, Afganistan, and Iraq to name a few. Here is someone who wants to be president and claims to not know anything about NIE on Iran, but seems to know all about Britney's sister. So my question would be this, lets say this Huckleberry gets elected and he does not care to stay on top of foreign affairs, but keeps up with the Spear girl shennanigans where does that get us? I think we would be no better off then we are now with the dumb things GW has been doing, nice. You would think someone who is seeking the job of president would at least try to be somewhat aware of information that is part of the job, and not some scripted reality show or the shennaigans of a couple of bimbos.
