MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Ralph Nader unleashed on Hillary Rodham Clinton Monday - criticizing her for being soft on defense spending and a chum of big business - and expressed his strong support for John Edwards.

In an 11th hour effort to encourage liberal Iowans to "recognize" Edwards by "giving him a victory," the activist and former presidential contender said in an interview that Clinton will "pander to corporate interest groups" if elected.

Nader specifically accused Clinton of failing to challenge military spending because "she is a woman who doesn't want to be labeled as soft on defense and she doesn't want to be shown as taking on big business."

Well, that's the kiss of death for a campaign!

Gee, just what Edwards needs... support from a back-stabbing individualist.

Nader is right! John Edwards for president! The only one (of the top three) willing to tell truth to corporatist self-centered greedy power.

Ralph Nader never had much use for the "new kind of democrat" that the Clintons represent. And face it, no matter what is your opinion of Ralph, he is posting some real questions about Ms. Clinton. That she might just be the bag lady for big business, and a shill for the American-Israel lobby? I think that has already been verified.

Hard to say what Nader would do for Edwards - whether this helps or harms him. Too bad it's not an Al Gore endorsement. Where is Gore on the candidates? Who does Gore support?

Is Gore the third party candidate, or basking in a smug shade tree somewhere saying, "I told you so" to the American people?

Like Nader or not (personally, I respect the hell out of the guy, though he is quirky), he is not one to throw around endorsements lightly and only endorses John because he gets what those of us on board with John get....John Edwards is authentic. He speaks from the heart and personal experience with conviction.

I had the privilege of speaking with John and Elizabeth in Lebanon, NH recently and they are for real. Two other heroes of mine were there also, Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne and in speaking to them, I found they get the same gut reaction to John...he is for real. (Jackson Browne said he had originally signed on with Sen. Obama, but found that John was more in line with his values and switched.)

I've worked for candidates for political office for over 20 years now and you develop a vibe for who's authentic and who's packaged.

In 1996, I was deputy state field director in New Hampshire for Bill Clinton and Al Gore. I got to meet Hillary on several occasions, and I thought that one day I would be supporting her for Prez.....then she became a Senator and I have a hard time now seeing how she is much different than Joke Liebermann.

Both she and Sen. Obama had a real chance to show leadership when the Democrats took back the majority two years ago. Instead of leadership, both have been portraits in ambition.

Yeah, I would like to say I supported the first woman President or the first African-American for that matter, but not merely for the sake of doing so. John Edwards is the real deal and he has sensible priorities. He also is the only Democrat who soundly defeats any of the Republicans in a head to head matchup and that is because his message transcends party lines and speaks to all Americans as Americans.

John Edwards should win the Democratic nomination decisively and take the White House back for the working families that are the majority and backbone of this nation.

Nader can be inconvenient but he is right on in his criticism of Hillary.

Edwards is a longshot.

I didn't vote for Nader in '04, but his contention that "mainstream" Democrats aren't significantly different from Republicans was proven right by Congressional Democrats last year.

Nader's criticisms of Hillary Clinton are on target, as well. She's a corporatist, and if elected, she won't address the core problems facing our nation (unchecked corporate power and a overly-skewed distribution of wealth).

You people can whine all you want about the 2000 election, but Ralph Nader has been right about the issues.

Now that Nader is on-board with Edwards' campaign, will the skeletons of the other Dem candidates now fly out of their political closets?

Tighten your seat-belts folks, it's going to get very interesting.

Check out the most recent Nader appearance on Bill Maher's HBO show; the crowd really liked what he had to say:

#1 "We The Sheeple " are still only sheeple!
#2 We are still picking Our leaders as if this was a contest for "Homecoming King (or Queen ).

#3 Daddy Warbucks ( otherwise known as THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX and CORPORATE AMERICA as a whole are still pulling all the strings that count.
#4 The only bright spot in all this is that NO MATTER WHO WINS (repulican or democrat or whatever )they can't possibly be as bad as BUSH !!!.......can they?

We'll never get anywhere as voters in this country until enough of us realize that the career politicians who make up the two-party system, except for minor differences, are the same, corporate-owned puppets who will do the bidding of their corporate masters once in office. It really makes no difference in the grand scheme of things as long as that truth is sustained.

We need leaders who aren't corporate-owned, but will never get them as long as the majority believes in this farcical situation that is slave to the corporate masters.

OUCH, a Ralph Nader endorsement?

I would think Edwards is smarter than that.

Instead of paying for needless haircuts, he should have paid Nader to keep his endorsemnt, or give it to an opponent.

Talk about a joke, NADER is more than irrelevant and useless, he's... NADER!

This is really interesting. Nader back Edwards and Kucinich backs Obama. Two progressive icons with different favorites. I would love to hear a debate between Nader and Kucinich about these two candidates.

I just saw Edwards being interviewed by Wolf on CNN. Wolf asked what Edwards would do when he first takes office. He said, he'd get the military together and make plans to get combat troops out in a year and he'd get Congress to work on Univ Health Care. Wolf then asked, what about your Corporate fight? What would you do to solve those problems? Edwards, changed the subject. He GAVE NO SOLUTIONS to stopping Corporate Greed....HIS big campaign issue
