John McCain is 71 years old, but the issue of his age comes up only occasionally at his town meetings. That is why a query this morning at Pembroke Academy was striking. A woman asked whether McCain had the stamina to serve as president for eight years.

McCain responded by leaving open the possibility that, if he is elected, he might not seek re-election. "If I said I was running for eight years, I'm not sure that would be a vote getter," McCain said shortly before leaving New Hampshire for Iowa.

Saying you're running for four years is not a vote getter either.

How sad for the repiglicans that they have to fall back on John (has been) McCain. The GOP is dead. There will never be another repiglican president.

The whole "I served" thing is getting tiresome. Between McCain and Kerry, the Vietnam veteran schtick has become overused and antiquated. America needs someone who looks to the future, not 40 years into the past.

My dislike of McCain is based on his voting record, and though honorable, his service has little impact on my opinion of him.

Well, colour me impressed.

McCain's age is not an issue, as far as I am concerned. Honestly, I think that his detractors who bring up the fact that he's over seventy because they oppose him for other reasons. Old and infirm? Are you joking? He keeps up a schedule that would easily tire many GenX-ers; running for President requires major physical and mental stamina (even if you happen to be Fred Thompson). If anyone younger than John McCain doubts this, let them try it and see how long they last. Do not judge him by his age, which is irrelevant; he is not that much older than most of the other major candidates, who, except for Obama, are in their late 50s to mid 60s.

Well, at least he's right on this issue. To get two terms, you first have to get one.

I would suggest he doesn't run for even ONE term.

That we are even discussing this matter demonstrates how unsuitable he is for the position.

He's too old, he doesn't possess the temperament, he' too infirm for the difficult task ahead. This nation would be foolish to entrust its future to a tired, old man.

McCain is a patriot and American hero who has served our nation with courage and honor. As an added bonus he has more political experience than the top three Dem candidates, combined.

He would be a fine president.

Hopefully this barbaric warmongerer won't serve one day, let alone one term.
