Tom Wolfe's Next Novel Revealed

Tom Wolfe's next novel has been revealed:

Back to Blood, the author's first work of fiction since his 2004 book, I Am Charlotte Simmons, published by Wolfe's longtime house FSG, will be set in Miami and deal with recurring themes for the author such as class and race.

Wolfe's previous novels also include 1987's The Bonfire of the Vanities and 1998's A Man in Full.

But fans will have to wait, as Back to Blood is set for a 2009 release.

Update from the AP:

His new novel, "Back to Blood," will be a "Bonfire"-like tour of Miami, taking on "class, family, wealth, race, crime, sex, corruption, and ambition." Among the characters: a Cuban nurse married to a French sex doctor, a Haitian woman "who passes for Anglo" and "a freshman journalist on the trail of a Russian-mob-comes-to-Miami story."

More from the New York Observer: Back to Blood will not be published by Wolfe's long-time publisher Farrar, Straus, and Giroux. Instead, Wolfe's novel will be published by Little, Brown:

Why did Mr. Wolfe leave his home? According to FSG editor-in-chief Jonathan Galassi, it was a question only of money.

"We just couldn't agree on the price for the project. That was the only thing," Mr. Galassi said. "We love Tom. He's a big part of the family here. It's sad, but there are certain things that are just determining."
