Dane Cook Breaks Stand-Up Comedy Endurance Record

Dane Cook broke a Laugh Factory endurance record set less than a month ago by Dave Chappelle.

In what is becoming a heated battle between the two comedians, Cook told jokes at the Sunset Strip comedy club for 7 hours, beating the record Chappelle, 34, set at 6 hours and 12 minutes in December.

Cook went on stage Tuesday and continued until nearly 7 a.m. Wednesday, and at one point even sent out for food to keep the audience fed and happy.

"If this rivalry keeps up I'm going to turn the Laugh Factory into a bed and breakfast," club owner Jamie Masada said.

All this time I wondered if I was the only one who didn't "get" Dane Cook. I watched part of his concert on TV and couldn't figure out what the audience was laughing at. Actually, they weren't even laughing. They were just squealing -- like little girls at a boy band concert. It was really weird. It's nice to read other people's comments to affirm that I am not alone on this.

The last stand-up performer who made me really laugh hard was Eddie Izzard. I think the concert was called "Dressed to Kill." I could probably enjoy listening to Izzard talk for 6 hours.

Dane Cook seems to have been brought into existence by the sheer collective meathead urge for fame without talent. This crowd wanted to see someone "stupid and untalented" annointed as a tribute to themselves, and the big meathead fairy granted their wish.
