Intoxicated Britney Spears Hands Over Kids To Cops, Is Hospitalized

An order has been made public and Britney has had her custody rights suspended. Kevin Federline now has sole legal and physical custody. The next hearing is scheduled for January 14.

Britney is being held at a hospital, probably Cedars-Sinai where she was initially taken by ambulance, on a 72-hour involuntary mental lockdown.

Britney was strapped to the gurney by her ankles when she was taken to the hospital, as evidenced by these photos.

E!'s Marc Malkin has been hearing for about a year the Britney likely suffers from bipolar disorder. TMZ also reports it is probably bipolar disorder.

TMZ reports that Britney's younger son Jayden James was not injured after being locked in a room by his mother, despite being taken to the hospital after the custody stand-off.

Contrary to a report on pagesix.com, Britney's assistant did not break down a door to get to Spears late Thursday night.

The Sun claims Britney may be hooked on Clenbuterol, a drug used for racehorses that is popular for weight loss and that makes the user feel high.

Britney's distraught mom, reached by phone, said: "Just say prayers"

Police were called to Britney Spears' home Thursday night in a custodial dispute that lasted nearly three hours before an intoxicated Spears reportedly turned over her children to ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Officers were called to the home around 8 p.m., and the 26-year-old singer turned over the children around 10:50 p.m., Officer Jason Lee, a police spokesman, told City News Service.

Aerial footage from KTLA-TV showed Spears being lifted in a gurney into an ambulance. It was unclear where she was being taken.

Lee said Spears was under the influence of an unknown substance, and no injuries were reported. The incident involved a family dispute that police worked to resolve "peacefully by court order," he said.

An Associated Press photographer outside the gated community that includes Spears' house saw six police cars, an ambulance and a fire truck enter around 10:30 p.m. A dispatcher with the fire department referred calls to the police department.

I really don't believe that Britney's problems are all that complicate­d. She's a substance abuser, pure and simple (as court records do show), and her behavior is extremely commonplac­e in the context of substance abusers. Forget about all these esoteric diagnoses of her problems. Drug and alcohol addiction is a very sad but all too common problem in this and most other societies. Until she gets serious about stopping all her addictions­, this nonsense will just continue. Ask Robert Downey Jr. what it did for his show biz career.

A diagnosis of bipolar disorder would explain a lot about Ms. Spears behavior. What needs to happen now is admission to a serious facility somewhere, where she can get appropriat­e therapy. In the meantime, I'd like to see a judge issue a restrainin­g order against the MSM and paparazzi to give the poor girl some breathing room. If she doesn't turn this thing around we're going to see another Anna Nicole Smith scenario, which will leave two kids without a mother and a media establishm­ent with blood on its hands.

I am no Spears fan and I have a hard time trying to understand the media oversatura­tion of her.

So she's a mediocre talent with unsavory habits who likes to party and married poorly and had kids too soon...lot­s of people are guilty of worse. (Try George Bush for one.)

I kinda think the media and especially the public should tone down the obsession with her. Why, for example, every time she leaves her home she has to fight off hordes of papparazzi­? Aren't stalking laws still on the books in this country?? If I were her I'd be in court filing "keep away" orders right and left against ALL of them. No way would I tolerate the kind of harrassmen­t heaped on this obviously screwed up person who clearly is not in control of her life or has the ability to combat the siege she appears to be under.

I say the media and especially the public need to tone down their obsession with her and give her some time and space to try to collect herself and maybe salvage some scraps of her life. She's entitled.

Why not focus all that energy & attention on bringing the Bush administra­tion criminals to account?
