The restrictions that the striking Writers Guild of America has placed on late-night television hosts to keep them from writing material for their shows continued to have no impact on the leading late-night star, Jay Leno, who planned once again to write and perform a comedy monologue for NBC's "Tonight Show" Friday night.

A spokeswoman said Friday that the guild would definitely take some action against Mr. Leno, who is a member.

"The answer is, he is not getting a pass," said Sherry Goldman, a spokeswoman for the Writers Guild of America East. She said that the action to be taken had not yet been specified.

Leno wrote the monologue.

Bravo for Jay's courage standing up to the bullying intimidation of claiming that "strike rules" trump the right of free speech under the constitution.

Leno didn't come back because he's bored from playing with his cars. He didn't come back because he needs the money. He didn't come back because he's aching to satisfy his artistic craving to write comedy (and not all that well).

Look behind Leno. He was given a carrot or a stick.

A writer has no more claim to downstream income than a set designer or a caterer, they are all just components in a complex business process that involves many people in many roles, from Janitor to Financier...

I'm for the union. But I don't want anyone telling me I can't write for me. There is no argument that will change that. It is a moral fact with me.

Give it a shot if you must, but you'll be vomiting and losing friends by sunset.

You either have integrity like Carson or Letterman, or you're a corporate whore.

The jury's been out for some time on Leno.

WGA picks sides with Letterman. It's not Leno's fault Letterman owns company. I thought lefties hate big business and all those greedy business owners.

Leno is responsible for 160 peoples' jobs.

WGA cornered him and he's fighting back.
Leno is a big WGA supporter and if they didn't cut deal with letterman, WGA would be in better position.
now they whine, just like victimhood lefties always do.

All you need to know is that Leno is a scab and he's paying scabs to write for his show. He's flipped off the union he's belonged to for decades. He should suffer the stiffest penalties the WGA has at their disposal. People should see him as the disingenuous sot he really is.

IF YOU STOP
...AND think about it the Writers
are just being egocentric
and don't deserve a foot in the door to
new media......its
not necessary to open the door at all
when new media
BY definition is not unionized.
ARE THERE UNIONS FOR FLASH DEVELOPERS?
ARE THERE UNIONS FOR ADOPBE AIR DEVELOPERS?
ARE THERE UNIONS FOR MICROSOFT OFFICE DEVELOPERS?
The music industry had to adjust to the web
over the last decade. The WGA is a
FORTRESS HOLLYWOOD kind of nostalgia for what once was and is no more. BEST to
outsource WRITING to INDIA and the blog writers
who just want a bowl of curry?

The biggest non-story in a long while is the writer's strike.

Nobody outside of LA and New york cares about it at all.
