Star's fury over claims by Diana author Andrew Morton:

• Daughter by Katie Holmes "conceived like Rosemary's Baby"

• Nicole Kidman "feared blackmail" over sex tapes made with Scientologists

• Scientologists "planted meadow of flowers for Tom and Nicole to run through"

• Cruise's next mission is to recruit David Beckham

Tom Cruise has become the de-facto second in command of the Church of Scientology, according to a new biography - which makes an extraordinary attack on the star by comparing his 20-month-old daughter Suri to the Devil's child in the film Rosemary's Baby.

Andrew Morton's unauthorised biography claims Scientology has taken over the 45-year-old actor's life, with its officials selecting many of the staff at his Hollywood mansion.

The biographer of Princess Diana alleges Cruise is consulted by Scientology leader David Miscavige on "every aspect of planning and policy" and is tailoring his career to fit the aims of Scientology.

Miscavige is said in the book to have gone to extraordinary lengths to charm Cruise, even ordering his staff to plant a field full of wild flowers at a Scientology base in California after Cruise had told him of his fantasy to run through a wildflower meadow with his then newlywed wife Nicole Kidman.

The New York Post has an article about the book here.

Excerpt:

In March 2004, Cruise cut ties with longtime agent Pat Kingsley for speaking out against Scientology as bad for his image, the book relates. "From that moment, she was doomed," Morton quotes a "Hollywood insider" as saying.

The relationship with Cruz - and hers with Scientology - also ended in 2004. Cruise tellingly showed up without her at the Golden Globe Awards. She had just come back to the country after being with her father, Eduardo, who suffered a heart attack months earlier in Spain. Eduardo considered Scientology to be offensive, writes Morton.

Im telegraphing the era of President Obama, so it seems to me we will all have to work together in the spirit of bipartisanship to find some common ground in our differences with Tom, Katie, and the Church of Scientology.

i wish tom and all those he loves as much happiness and abundance they are able to achieve. we all have the same red blood running through our veins and if one of us is able to find more love than the next, more power to him!

Who cares what this lying fagot has to say? Now I have nothing against gays... hell, I am a lesbian (there some of you have it) but Tom is a lying puke.

Tom needs to go away. What an ugly person he is.

Wonder when his contract marriage with Katie is up..

Wow! Can't wait to read the book -- in spite of the fact that I KNOW it's written to make more fuss about Cruise the wierdo.

Even his new haircut is... well weird :-)

This Morton guy must be on drugs or something to invent such stories about Tom. I hope he will be sued to bankruptcy. He’s just a leech living off other’s fame. First he sucked out Princess Diana now it’s Tom and Katie.

Since Tom is from my home town, I feel obliged to stand up for him. The truth is that his behavior is not unusual for an actor. They are prone to drama by their nature and often work out their emotional lives in public view. Part of the attacks on Tom are rooted in his success. Gay or straight, Scientologist or not, he has a right to believe what he wans, speak about it freely and make a living as an actor. His performance may be affected by his public perception based on his views and deeds, but try reconsidering the popularity and celebrity of Woody Allen, Michael Jackson, Roman Polanski, Charlie Chaplin ... before you condemn Tom for speaking his mind and following his beliefs. Has anyone ever actually explored his alarming claims of the overprescription of anti-psychotics by Psychiatry on behalf of the Drug companies? A recent documentary on PBS did and supported Tom's assertions, yet we hear little from the media.

Cruise's designs on Beckham are more than religious.

People get way too bent out of shape about Cruise and Scientology. The guy is not my favorite actor but he seems like a decent human being. And even when he loses it a bit, he seems to have his heart in the right place.

I am far more bothered by this so-called biographer trying to use the Scientology thing to drum up business.

So what if Cruise is a Scientologist? Most of the fundamentalist Christians think we should teach Creationism in our schools and ban a woman's right to choose. To me that is far worse than a guy who wants his wife to join his religion.

The guy has made a lot of money using Scientology. Would he be a megastar without it? Maybe, maybe not, but it certainly is not hitting him in the pocketbook.

What is Tom thinking with that fucking junior Swirly haircut? It is not flattering in the least and seems to shout to the world. My hair line is receding but I think I've solved it. Instead of making him look younger, he just looks pathetic.

Tom! That haircut is appropriate for 5 year olds.

Everyone is much too hard on Scientology. On paper, their doctrines are no crazier than what the Mormons, Pentacostals and Creationists believe. We accept Catholicism's Trinity and resurrection as truth more because they are ancient and traditional myths than grounded in any historical proof.

Everyone should have a place for spiritual development inside themselves, and it is hard and necessary work. Organized religion provides easy answers for those lacking the ego or strength to find answers on their own. That is why AA uses a sense of spirit in it's approach of curing alcoholics. One cannot be whole without a sense of the spiritual.

I can't argue with Cruise's success, and actually admire Mormonism, but that doesn't mean I actually have to buy into their believes. On the contrary, perhaps he needs to recruit Michael Jackson and Brittney Spears.

The evils of Scientology are only that of mind control over weak people. There are far more harmful evils being performed in the hands of politicians and generals.

Is he out for world domination or something, is his daughter the new christ girl ? - what are you piss stains warbling about - identify the threat here, you allude to something but you're not clear. Not only what is the threat but why is it a threat?

Behind the scenes, the word is that Suri is a product of L. Ron Hubbard's sperm. I would love to know what Scientologists' religious beliefs are. What makes them a religion?
