Last week, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said it "would be fine with" him if the U.S. military stayed in Iraq for "a hundred years" or even a "million years."...

...on CBS's Face the Nation, McCain claimed that Americans would not be "concerned" if the U.S. spends "10,000 years" in Iraq:

The point is it's American casualties. We've go to get American's off the frontlines, have the Iraqis as part of the strategy, take over more and more of the responsibilities, and then I don't think Americans are concerned if we're there for one hundred years or a thousand years or ten thousand years.

McCain is a real threat. In spite of all the crazy talk over the last 3 years I think a huge part of the voting population still see him as the "maverick" of 2000. If he wins the republican nom he's going to get a lot of the independant vote.

About McCain the insane:

I watched his rally on Cspan yesterday. It was scary. First of all, the "crowd" behind him looked like they'd be going from the podium to the morgue. They were all there still fighting the same war McCain if fighting. I was against Viet Nam then and am against his million year war in Iraq and everywhere else we can make war not peace.
I have never been so confident that there is finally a new day coming. I'm one of those boomers who wants us to sit down and enjoy the next phase of our lives. No more Clintons, no more Bush's and no more old men with one foot planted in the grave and the other in another century.
YES I AM READY FOR CHANGE

McCain has become a zionist/neocon hack, he's begging for campaign cash by say he would have bombed Iraq even if they weren't suspected of having WMD. I'll bet he already has his sights set on Iran. We should be very afraid of McCain. He will say and do ANYTHING to be President.

Well John won't have to worry about making the decision on troops in Iraq after N.H.

FOR SALE: WEST'S MOST DEADLY NUCLEAR SECRETS

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article3137695.ece

"He was aiding foreign operatives against US interests by passing them highly classified information, not only from the State Department but also from the Pentagon, in exchange for money, position and political objectives."

"If you made public all the information that the FBI have on this case, you will see very high-level people going through criminal trials."

"What I found was damning. While the FBI was investigating, several arms of the government were shielding what was going on."

The US should remain in Iraq as long as it is in the best long term interests of Iraq and the US. And, it may be in boths interests for a long time. Question is, what would be the consequences of the US precipitately leaving Iraq?

Republicans scare the shit out of me! And so do the mainstream Democrats who have been bought and paid for by corporate lobbyists, esp. the MIC.

I like John McCain from his appearances on The Daily Show w/ Jon Stewart. However, McCain was a bit testy during his last visit. Stewart started peeling back the layers of the onion and McCain became quite defensive until Stewart relented. Nailed him!

Huckabee and McCain, personable and funny guys, but they are both too scary, esp. after Cheney/Bush Co. The former being a Southern Baptist Evangelical, the latter apparently a MIC supporter. Haven't we had enough of both of these groups?

A bit too schizo for my taste.

Let's see. Our occupation costs taxpayers about 10 billion dollars per month ... time 10,000 years is ...
.

...

... wow. That's a lot of money.

Why would we not care about that, John?

Hey, if the Native Americans can get used to us, the Iraqis ought to be able to warm to our presence after, say, half a million years, right, John?

As for me, I don't have any problem with John McCain spending a hundred years in Iraq, as long as he spends it apologizing to each of the innocent people maimed, orphaned, widowed, psychologically devastated, impoverished, or otherwise made a casualty of this act of imperial overreach.

If the oil supply is disrupted, you will be aware of the reason for a presence. He is just being honest - about instability there and our dependence on oil. Not at voters are care about reality.

Here is na interesting angle : Which republican candidate would Doris Day support?
Based on her support for pets there is an interesting article on this :

Being president is number one on McCain's bucket list. He couldn't remember anything else to put down for number two.
