Mccain Thousand Iraq Years

Think Progress:

Last week, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said it "would be fine with" him if the U.S. military stayed in Iraq for "a hundred years" or even a "million years."...

...on CBS's Face the Nation, McCain claimed that Americans would not be "concerned" if the U.S. spends "10,000 years" in Iraq:

The point is it's American casualties. We've go to get American's off the frontlines, have the Iraqis as part of the strategy, take over more and more of the responsibilities, and then I don't think Americans are concerned if we're there for one hundred years or a thousand years or ten thousand years.

The first three words of that sentence are essentially correct. Give him partial credit.

How do you say something so stupid when you are on the campaign trail?

If he's their savior, they are doomed.

Old War Horses never die.
They drag all the new horses to the battlefield to fight their ancient fights for them by dying "in our name.

Old War Horses never die, because it's their 15 MINUTES OF FAME...it's what they want to be remembered by, so they just keep it going and going and going and going.

THIS IS NOT YOUR WORLD ANY MORE OLD MEN.
THIS IS NOT YOUR WORLD.

You've broken it.
The young ones are having to deal with it.

McCain - you are a traitor to your country.

McCain and his sidekick Lieberman have been two of the Bush/Cheney administrations most reliable apologists/defenders/cheerleaders, particularly where the Iraq debacle is concerned. McCain's support of an open-ended occupation is entirely contrary to the wishes of a majority of Americans. One might normally expect McCain's embrace of Bush/Cheney policies to be a political liability considering the low opinion that 70-75 percent of Americans have of this failed administration, the profound desire for change among the electorate, and the rising tide of the Democratic party in states that were previously considered to be solid Red. But no, McCain will likely couple this strategy with the type of fear-mongering used by Bush/Cheney to persuade voters to go against their instincts, just like Nixon did in 1972.

If McCain does not cut the umbilical cord to the Bush administration, and the Democrats fail to exploit this obvious advantage, and hang his record around his neck like a millstone, we are likely to see a continuation of this long nightmare. If McCain should get the nomination, keep an eye on his choice for VP as McCain has already hinted at serving for only one term.

What a disregard for the people: the AMerican people and the Iraqui people.

To propose a 10,000 year occupation if needed for a war that was illegal and WRONG and UNNECESSARY to begin with is insane and belies a complete lack of reality.

The one thing all republican candidates share is this complete disconnect from the will of the AMerican people and from what is morally right....for all their goddam religious talk.

In 10,000 years there won't be an Iraq or a US either. We will have all passed into ancient history. This will be an age even beyond the time when corporations replaced nations as the ruling class and armies fought for Exxon against Shell. It will be beyond the consolidation to corporate conglomerate ruling classes and beyond the time that people will bio-engineered to fill the various corporate levels of hiearchies. It will be a time when humans may not even be here but rather machines will be roaming the earth evolving into their next phase. IBM therefore I am.

Such hyperbole is beyond reason. And its core McCain is advocating a perpetual Empire, and empire-building, or rather empire-sustaining, has been the death knell of republics and liberty from Rome on. Three times in the case of France did their empire bring about the fall of a republic. It is sheer stupidity to augur that we are well-served by having garrisons the world over. For pete's sake, we have troops in Paraguay. Doesn't that concern anyone or are Americans so unaware of their government's foreign policy? The greatest danger to world peace isn't radical Islam, it's not China nor a resurgent Russia, or even rogue North Korean nukes, the greatest danger is American militarism.

McCain is thinking about the way Korea played out. We've been there in force since about 1950, and now that the active conflict as ceased, nobody thinks twice about it.

The only problem is, we're not in Kansas anymore, Dorothy. Our experience in Iraq is not going to morph from a "hot" one to a "cool" one. The conflict will continue to fester, and American troops will continue to kill, and be killed.

As an Independent I'll NEVER
vote for a republican as long as they're all shielding the current administration.

It's beyond despicable.

At the rate of $200B per year,

10,000 years gets the bill to

$2,000,000,000,000,000.

That's 2 thousand trillion dollars.

But, it's the principle, after all.

In it till we win it!
