Huckabee Preaches

Washington Post:

A pastor from Texas was scheduled to deliver the sermon Sunday at a church here called the Crossing.

But instead this small evangelical congregation heard from a different special guest: Baptist minister and 2008 presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, who delivered a sermon of more than 20 minutes on how to be part of "God's Army" in the middle school cafeteria where the congregation meets.

"When we become believers, it's as if we have signed up to be part of God's Army, to be soldiers for Christ," Huckabee told the enthusiastic audience.

Huck's campaign tool chest: a bass, Chuck, the Bible and clam chowder. Huck pimps out Jesus for votes. I fail to see why anyone takes the man seriously. He has no professional identity. Is he a pastor? a politician? an entertainer? Or is he Elmer Gantry redux?

Christianity (as it is the majority religion) is America's cancer: eating away secular democracy from the inside

There is something sinister about Hucklebe. You get a little glimpse of it every now and then - like when he was jabbing at Romney in the last debate.

What a whack job. I thought we were voting for the next President not the Pope.

Huckster-bee: Like many of his ilk, has absorbed just enough of the post-Enlightenment world to be semi-tolerant of other "right believing" white Protestant sects of Christianity. Reveals the true nature of his Confederate revenge cult inferiority complex with quotes like: "We cannot do it," he said referring to Thursday night's Republican caucus, "by arming ourselves and taking anyone out." In fact, you really do want to arm yourself with real guns and "take everyone (who does not think or act like you, or submit to your theocratic power structure) out." You always frame everything in apocalyptic terms, either for fear of your mortal soul or for convenience, to obtain more personal and political power. You are always hearkening back to some "golden age," usually Biblical, American colonial (excluding the more Deistic aspects of that time from historical memory) or anything fifty years before now, when the dominant Anglo power structure seemed more in tact to your feeble brain. That is why, for example, students who attend Christian colleges, such as Patrick Henry University and Liberty University, consider it acceptable to watch American television shows from the 1950s and 1960s, and why you play Beatles songs at your campaign rallies as if they were part of Christian tradition when such things were roundly condemned by fundamentalist ministers of the day as "Satanic influences" or "communistic." So, keep it up, Huckster-bee, keep doing your strange, illogical, mind numbingly cognitively dissonant dance, that some will never tire of. Keep playing the Beatles to people who said the Beatles were Satanic communists forty years ago. Keep holding on to the first one percent of the Enlightenment and ignoring the other ninety-nine percent of it, even though the conveniences that rule your life, the medicine that saves you, the very philosophy and psychology you embrace unconsciously encompasses it. Keep searching for that golden age in the most tribal and ethno-centric of ways. You have your audience. I just pray that your ignorance does not destroy us.

Yes! lets put another bush in the white house, another right wing nut, another faith based briber, just what we need, or perhaps just what we deserve for allowing the mindless christian vote to elect the president of the US.

Christians do not like to be associated with the evangelical filth ,however just like the muslims, until they have the courage to take a stand against their own kind they will stand guilty along with the extremists.

Huckabee is unapologetic about his faith. I have real questions about his ability to separate his faith from his secular decision-making as President. Where does this separation exist in Mike Huckabee? If he cannot clearly explain this to the American people, then he should not get the nomination, even though he has picked up on the 'populist' frame, a'la Obama and Edwards.

Christians, please stop pushing your mumbo jumbo on people. You can believe what you want, and, let us believe what we want.

I have 16 years of a good Catholic education and have no use for all that evangelical mawkish nonsense.
