Clinton Surrogate Makes Creepy Reference To JFK Assassination

With the chips down, we're still waiting for that vaunted Clinton discipline to kick in. This isn't helping:

Today, in Dover, Francine Torge, a former John Edwards supporter, said this while introducing Mrs. Clinton: "Some people compare one of the other candidates to John F. Kennedy. But he was assassinated. And Lyndon Baines Johnson was the one who actually" passed the civil rights legislation.

The comment, an apparent reference to Senator Barack Obama, is particularly striking given documented fears among blacks that Mr. Obama will be assassinated if elected.

How to describe this? Desperate? Weird? Uhm...a squeaky frame? [Rimshot!] Hopefully, Torge meant to merely draw a comparison between Clinton and a president who escalated wildly unpopular wars, and not with an assassin.

Phil Singer, a Clinton spokesman said: "We were not aware that this person was going to make those comments and disapprove of them completely. They were totally inappropriate."

If only there was some way to, say, vet a speaker's remarks in advance or something!

What an absolutely idiotic interpretation by Mr. Linkins.

It's clear that Ms. Torge was pointing out the fact that it was Johnson, due to his experience in the Senate and his knowledge of how things get things done in Washington, who actually pushed through difficult legislation such as civil rights and medicare. I happen to think that knowing how to actually accomplish one's stated goals is kind of important.

JFK made some inspiring speeches, but overall was a rather mediocre president (remember Bay of Pigs?). Tragically, we'll never know whether he could have matured into the job and how a possible second term might have looked, but his inexperience clearly made him less effective during the time he was in the office.

JFK inspired, but it was the charismatically challenged LBJ who got things done.

More lies and distortion - from the Huffington Post. From the headline it sounds like the aide was accusing Obama of having something to do with the JFK assassination. This is ridiculous. The guy was making the point that it was Johnson who pushed a lot of the things like the Civil Right Act through, not Kennedy, BECAUSE Kennedy had been assassinated.
