NO WAY. This is a crazy, shocking, hilarious, amazing, game-rocking result. How many people had the Clinton obit written? Well, this guy, for one. This changes everything. This race is on, and something feels like it righted itself, because what was happening with Hillary before felt wrong, for a candidate of her skill and stature, and for someone who really did have so much support, despite the high negatives. It felt wrong, to me, after being on that bus and seeing her speak on Sunday. It also felt wrong vis a vis Obama — not his movement or amazing victory, but some of the negative stuff, like not addressing the booing of Hillary from his supporters on Friday night, or the ungracious "you're likeable enough" after she just said he was very likeable. But generally, it seemed completely off to have John Edwards declaring that this was a two-person race — it seemed wrong and not a reflection of reality. And it didn't seem like the way a leadership race — this leadership race — ought to go.

The quote above is from Brian Williams on MSNBC minutes before they called her as the winner. He noted that this, taken in tandem with Iowa, could be read as a rejection of coronation, for any candidate. Said Rachel Maddow slightly earlier in the evening: "What New Hampshire did was come out and body slam the national establishment press." Said Williams: "Voters have decided, 'this goes on from here.'" That's a good thing — and when it does, everyone in it will be better: The press will be better, because this is twice now they've jumped the gun, and twice that they've been wrong; and both Hillary and Barack will both be better, because they'll be reminded that victory is hard-won, and not assured, and no one's right, and a lil' dose of humility never comes amiss. Every candidate who gets back up after being knocked down is better for it. Democrats are lucky that it worked out this way: Instead of knocking out a great candidate early, they get two candidates in the race who are better for it. Now that's a victory.

I am also a Maddow fan, but I have to say replacing the sophomoric, myopic Tucker Carlson with ANYONE would have to be an improvement. The dweeb makes me nauseous.

Rachael Maddow is refreshing to watch. She remains in the no spin zone and would be good for MSNBC, to give her own show !

MSNBC, it's time to replace C Matthews with Rachel Maddow!

Her comment was the best of the poll watching night particularly when coupled with Tom B's. In my opinion she was right ~ much of the vote was a push back to the lousy job the MSM has done. While I am an Obama supporter, I have been disgusted with the lack of objectivity and biased Clinton coverage particularly on MSNBC ~ they seem to be competing with Fox for the best of the biased reporting!

Wouldn't it be great to have Rachel replace Chris Mathews on Hardballl! The thought of that possibility gives me hope for better political/campaign coverage and analysis during the important months ahead.

All those decrying the press coronation of Obama should also keep in mind that the Clinton camp ITSELF believe they would lose by 8 or more points. Many Clinton insiders were planning to jump ship this morning until HRC pulled out a hard-fought win.

Do you see anyone deserting Obama after he failed to meet expectations last night? Absolutely not. He didn't even lose the union endorsment that was supposedly only going to go to him after his anticipated win last night.

Clinton's support is wide but not deep. She will steamroll through Super Tuesday, in part because Edwards' only occupation now is candidate and he can't conceive of another. Also Clinton is amazingly adept at evolving her campaign. By last night she had entirely absorbed all the best ideas of Obama's campaign. It's now young faces in the background, "We" and "You" not "Me" and "Bill" it's heart talk now not head talk.

I gave $200 to Obama today, a pretty significant amount for me and almost ten-fold more the my next highest campaign donation ever, and I don't even believe Obama has a chance anymore. The donation was more like funeral offering though. Call it a thank you for the three days of optimism I felt before Bill kicked the attack machine into high gear. "Never bet against the Clintons" I always say, but for a moment there I forgot to be cynical enough to take my own advice.

Well, obviously this primary season is going to take on a life of its own.. but the following should be of concern to everyone.

A YouTube video from Black Box Voting that you won't soon forget:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiiaBqwqkXs

THE CAT THAT CONTROLS NEW HAMPSHIRE ELECTION PROGRAMMING

John Silvestro and his small private business, LHS Associates, has exclusive programming contracts for ALL New Hampshire voting machines, which combined will count about 81 percent of the vote in the primary. And as to Super Tuesday and beyond: Silvestro also has the programming contracts for the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont.

Silvestro IS the New Hampshire chain of custody in New England -- Or at least, a very large component in it.

The states to watch are California, Illinois, New York, Florida and Texas. A lot of electorial college votes. (Which, to me, is stupid. Majority should win.)
Should be interesting between a woman and the first minority contender in Presidential U.S. history. Comes down to it? Either one is better than what was "selected" for the White House, these last 8 years.

the real difference between Iowa and NH is that in NH if you wanted to vote for Biden,Richardson,Kucinich or Dodd you could whereas in Iowa if you couldn't get 15 people in a corner under your candidates banner you couldn't.
In Iowa people who weren't allowed to vote for the candidate of their choice(Biden,Richardson,Kucinich,Dodd)threw their votes to Obama and Edwards.Clinton was nobody's second choice. She suffered because of that while Obama and Edwards gained.

Watching the CNN results come in while sitting in the gym, I noticed a few things. From 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the Kucinich and Richardson numbers stopped growing and the Edwards numbers grew just at a steady 17% of the total. All the Democratic votes added to about 60,000 while the Republican votes were about half of that. NH is a very conservative state, and to have 2/3 of the votes going into the Dem selection in itself seemed to say something. The Republicans don’t have to be organized and coordinated to be a shrewd group. If I were a Repub and trying to throw a monkey wrench into the mix, I would have been voting for Clinton once I knew the McCain was safe. The NH voters (and North Eastern voters for that matter) are a lot better informed and a lot smarter than the average Joe or Jill out there in the US voting population. If I were a conservative in NH I would also be registered as an Independent and thus have a potential spoiler influence in primaries as well. I believe, and I bet that most in NH believe, that McCain is probably the most electible Repub out there (even if he does come across as a bit crazy) and that his best chances are against Clinton. I believe that among all the Dems still in the running, Clinton will be the most likely one for McCain to beat. That was what the numbers were telling me.

Also, assuming the psychological and behavioral profile I just inferred, I can imagine a good number of the Granite State folks taking pleasure in lying to the pollsters both going into and coming out of the primary.

Machiavelli rules!

Now only if the votes in NH did not have FRAUD written on them she could feel good about it. But I bet behind the scenes she questions the win. Her own polling put Obama ahead by 11pts...her own polling..this stinks of dead rats.

Anyone thinks that maybe it was voter fraud? Voter count fraud? I am quite suspicious of the numbers on the GOP side.

Yes, I am an ant-establishment person but I find it fishy the one state that touts that you tell them what they are going to do they will do the opposite, that they went with the establishment candidates particularly on the GOP side. McCain and Romney decisively 1-2 over the third? I would like to just have a follow up as to why the Boston Globe reported the numbers with Ron Paul being 1 or 2 early and then drops to a very distance 4th.

SO...

Iowa was a repudiation of Bush, Neocons, and the Republican Party in general. New Hampshire was a repudiation of the national media.
Both of them suck, it's true.

But the media being the news - Even at the cost of the US Presidency - is a brand new low in American Journalism (Congratulations Mathews, you slobbering idiot:).

Well...
Actually Fox News Deciding the US Presidency in 2000 is the current low. But this is scraping along the bottom in a slightly shallower pond.

Still amazed at the vitriol poured on Hillary. There was a concerted effort to all but end the election in NH. Surprised, disappointed that HuffPo decided to join MSM in this. Why do people get so twisted when a woman runs for office? Obama's speech was every political speech I've heard/read in my life. He did omit the "Only thing we have to fear ..." line but he's ambulatory. Can we forget opinion polls and wise ass TV commentators; talk about VOTERS' results!

Rachel, I love ya! You should have your own show. You are so bright, so refreshing from these experts without portfolio.
