Iraq Deaths

AP:

About 151,000 Iraqis died from violence in the three years after the United States invaded, concludes the best effort yet to count deaths -- one that still may not settle the fierce debate over the war's true toll on civilians and others.

The estimate comes from projections by the World Health Organization and the Iraqi government, based on door-to-door surveys of nearly 10,000 households. Experts called it the largest and most scientific study of the Iraqi death toll since the war began.

I was going to comment that in my experience, most Americans do not care about the Iraqi death toll. 150, 000 deaths, plus or minus, just does not seem to matter. Then within less then a day, the entire topic disappears from the main page of the Huffington Post. This seems to confirm my point.

Even a much more conservative method of counting yields 80,000 plus deaths. You can even add a death counter to your web site. Check out http://www.iraqbodycount.org/

That is roughly equivalent of 1.5 million civilians killed in the U.S.

There are approximately 3 million Iraqis displaced from their homes. That is the equivalent of 30 milliom in the U.S. - about the population of California.

All this for our oil companies and defense contractors to make bigger profits.

There is no way we can be or should be forgiven for what we have done in Iraq.

Sure, many of us tried to stop this fraud before it started. But, perhaps, we didn't try hard enough. We failed. We must now pay the price.

In the eyes of the world Bush's actions are America's actions. Whether we like it or not, Bush is our (twice) elected representative to the world.

All of us are responsible for the carnage he has caused.

For those among us who believe in hell, get ready to burn. For those who don't believe, there will be hell right here on earth.

We all shall pay.

"The goal is not to give an absolute, precise number of deaths. The goal is to give a sense of the magnitude of the problem."

I believe MOST Americans get a sense of the MAGNITUDE of the "problem"...even WITHOUT an absolute, precise number of deaths!

"The true toll may never be known because many deaths go unreported in the chaos that has gripped the country, or the numbers may be tainted by sectarian bias."

So the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of ETHNICALLY CLEANSED aren’t down for the count...even though they ARE "down for the count"!

SO MUCH for "FREEDOM"!

Stay safe, healthy and happy,
Love, Loretta

WASHINGTON — President Bush will offer Saddam Hussein an ultimatum Monday night -- step down or face war.

Bush was giving the Iraqi leader 48 hours to comply, administration officials said. The president, commander in chief of 250,000 U.S. troops poised at the borders of Iraq, planned to address the nation at 8 p.m. EST.

Tuesday evening it was revealed that Saddam Hussein had offered to go peacefully into exile just one month before the invasion of Iraq for a staggering $1 billion.

The offer was revealed in a transcript of talks from February 2003 between George Bush and the then Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Azna at the President's ranch in Texas.

The 650K number reported in the Lancet has been debunked. The same slant can probably be applied to this study with the involvement of the WHO. Just like the Nobel Peace Prize, these studies are just smoke screens for those that want to slap at Bush and the USA.

The WSJ has written off Edwards. That is reason enough to support him.

How do you get under the skin of neocons? Vote for John Edwards.

Do we really care?

If we do, we will ask the candidates whether whether they are going to end it or whether they are going to drag things out for decades.

Lives lost is an interesting statistic, but it is only a statistic for a culture that embodies warrior virtues.

And, then, of course, the WHO is the UN health arm.

And, nothing the UN reports is valid.

Unless the number supports a conservative argument.

The UN" It must be like " A Treaty". Invalid and worthless unless used for political gain.

I think I'm getting it now. They use a different dictionary.
