Iran aired video Thursday of its boats and U.S. naval ships in the Persian Gulf in an apparent attempt to show that there was no confrontation between the vessels.

The grainy 5-minute, 20-second video showed a man speaking into a handheld radio, with three U.S. ships floating in the distance. It appeared to be shot from a small boat bobbing at least 100 yards from the American warships.

The footage did not show any Iranian boats approaching the U.S. vessels or any provocation. But the short clip likely did not show Sunday's entire encounter, which U.S. Navy officials described as threatening, and said lasted about 20 minutes.

A Pentagon official said the video appeared to have been taken around the time of Sunday's confrontation but that the controversial parts of the incident were edited out. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the video.

Before you decide that the Pentagon described the incident accurately, perhaps you should read this article in the Wash. Post. You'll have to read it all the way thru, tho. bec. Robin Wright has hidden the most important admission deep into the article.

Well, well, well...

What happened to all the conspiracy theorists on tis site who said that this incident never happened, that it was all fake, that the Iranians don't have such boats, that it was the Gulf of Tonkin all over again...

Now that Iran has proven you wrong, will you actually admit that this happened? Or is it still too difficult to wrap your brain around the concept that the world is a complex place, that everything isn't part of some master plan, that maybe, just maybe, the US isn't always the sinister bad guy you want it to be. I know it's easier (and intellectually lazier) for you to cling to radical chic and to hate America by default. Just once I'd like to see one of you act like a rational adult and admit that your gut instinct was, in this case, DEAD WRONG.
