Stewart vs. Matthews Round 2: Jon Calls Chris Insane

Jon Stewart

Huffington Post   First Posted: 3/28/08 Updated: 5/25/11

Last fall Chris Matthews appeared on the "Daily Show" to promote his book Life's A Campaign. During a painful interview, Stewart called the book "a recipe for sadness" and wildly disagreed with its contents for several minutes. Matthews in turn exclaimed, "This is the book interview from hell! This is the worst interview I've ever had in my life!"

Last night on "The Daily Show" a writerless Stewart played a clip of MSNBC's Matthews and sidekick Keith Olbermann making Lawrence of Arabia metaphors to describe Hillary Clinton the night of the New Hampshire primary. He then mocked it with a metaphor of his own. If you can't watch the clip, know that it ends with Stewart saying of Matthews, "That guy is insane."

After a clip from MSNBC's New Hampshire coverage, during which Chris Matthews gives a lengthy analogy about Hillary Clinton and Lawrence of Arabia, Jon Stewart called Chris Matthew "insane". Jon Stewart is pretty fucking smug and self righteous..regardless of the truth about Matthews. did you see him kissing up to Seinfeld before the strike? not only does he think Seinfeld is a god- he more or less puts himself right there with him...this show jumped the shark a while ago. Jon, you're not that funny!

Matthews is hardly the only insane member of the media.

It's about time somebody pointed out the obvious. Matthews is a sad, sad man. Olbermann is just about to eat his lunch and Chris doesn't know what to do about it.

Rewind to about three years ago and see Matthews as cheerleader for everything Repulicans were doing. Just deserts. Buh Bye Matthews. Hello Olberman

He also has a crush on McCain. Depite Matthews criticism of the war in Iraq, he seems to be in love with the old war monger.

I wish Media Matters would do a comparison on his pro McCain anti Hillary comments like they did with Guiliani.

He's a sick man. I remember when he was obsessed eith the Monica deal in the 1990s. Day and night, he never stopped pounding BC. I remember Walter Cronkite coming on his show and telling him to ease up, you're kinda making a fool out of yourself. I can't believe he still has his job.

The fixation of all major news sources on the vapid utterances of our pitiful wannabes is sickening. I need solid information on what is going on in our country and in the world. Instead I get endless and useless drivel about "hope" and "change". Benjamin Franklin was right on target when he wrote: "he who lives on hope will die with a fart" and change can be disastrous also. I therefore try newspapers from France, Germany and Netherlands supplemented by the blogosphere and, occasionally, NYT's Krugman who is excellent. Also Asia Times on Line. What I learn is vastly different from what news-pygmies like Matthews serve up. Nevertheless I do listen to Matthews to find out what garbage is offered to and often swallowed whole hog by the public.
Yes, Olbermann can be pedantic but at least he apologizes when he was wrong and he often plays full citations of what people said as in the case of Bill Clinton's remark on Obama's anti-war "fairy tale".

I think the ayes have it! But it's a lot more complicated than just being insane.

Although he may very well have a mental illness (ADD or bi-polar disorder), Matthews is NOT insane. He is simply incompetent and uninteresting. He must have been a 'best-buy' time-filler for NBC, who is he REAL culprit here for hiring the poor guy in the first place.

Does anyone have Matthews email? He should be sent this blog.
It might just make him seek employment at a Burger joint, or service station.

Jon Stewart is one of my hero's. It's sad that we don't get truth in journalism from mainstream media. We have to count on a comedy show to get honest coverage of our political process. Mainstream media spins (distorts) facts instead of reporting real facts. Will there ever be accountability? Our airwaves have been sold to pundits who show no concern for facts.

Yes, Matthews is patholically fixated on Hillary. He also seems unable to relate to women. Psychiatrists would have a field day with this man!

Chris is one of the least informed but most highly opinionated pseudo journalists on TV. He should be on the Fox Noise channel. Stewart is right - Chris needs help in case anyone cares.

It boggles the mind to think that he was once an occasional speech writer for a president and a staffer for a powerful House Speaker. He seems to have forgotten how Washington really works.

Please help him!
