Indeed in the ultraconservative bridal industry, which traditionally has been several beats behind current fashion, the news is that bridesmaid's dresses are beginning to mirror runway trends. Francesca Pitera, the chief designer for Jim Hjelm, a New York bridal house, is one in a coterie of trendsetters experimenting with progressive details and shapes. For spring, she is offering racer-back dresses and a baby-doll style with diminutive pockets. "Girls are ready for that," Ms. Pitera said. "They want more fashion-forward looks."
