Women Crying

Times Of London:

To cry or not to cry: that is the question. Whether or not Hillary Clinton actually shed any tears when things looked bad in New Hampshire, she certainly had a wet-eyed wobble, and it hasn't done her any harm. Not yet, anyway. But what of the rest of us? Is crying a sign of weakness if we allow it to happen in a professional capacity? Will it be the kiss of death for an otherwise promising career? Or can it be part of the armoury of the successful professional?

When women with power cry, it's for very different reasons than women without power.

El - in Hebrew - feminine god who is strong - why? Because women are the stronger sex in the ancient cultures. El is the name for God of Creation used through out the Genesis. Why? Women are the child bearers who bring life into the world and that takes strength.

El is compassionate. Exodus 34:7 Compassion in Hebrew means "womb" or Rachenum. It takes strength to be compassionate, and the source of compassionate is feminine - the nurturing side of God which is always stronger than the intellect - and because the nurturing side of God is stronger - life goes on no matter the human failings.

Hillary Clinton choked up because she didn't want her "womb" to be barren, he work for women and children to be fruitless. For that I respect her and she has my vote.

She has been treated far more crueler than any woman deserves to be treated to get where she is at. If she wasn't governed by a higher calling than her own ego, she couldn't do it. Her strength is God given. Many of us saw it.

Is it possible that women in power who forcefully led their nation in de facto wars shed tears? I'm thinking of Margaret, Benizar, Indira, & Golda. One may not call them weak sisters.

Of course if I as an underling would cry it would be a sign of weakness.

My tough guy male boss tears up all of the time. He even goes farther than Hillary did. His voice cracks more and he wipes his eyes. This offsets those moments when he cuts our health care benefits and expects us to work more for no additional compensation. It's just so tough to be in power.

it is appropriate to be moved to tears because of sympathy for others.

it was totally inappropriate for Hillary to cry because of pity for herself (although she said it was about "us" -- yeah, right).

Hillary's selfish tears and transparently selfish words just shows more of her Bush-like egomania.

Are you kidding me? A person, woman or man, who wants to be the leader of the free world almost cries and we wonder if this is a sign of weakness? Of course it is! It sure would be a problem if she broke down in negotiations with the Iranian government now wouldn't it. She can cry in the privacy of her own home all she wants but keep the waterworks out of display at all times. That goes for any woman in any position of power. Being a woman doesn't give you a free pass to turn on the emotional waterfall whenever things don't go your way any more than being a man lets us hit things when we don't get our way.

Thanks largely to cultural conditioning, a man experiencing a combination of anger, frustration, and pain is more likely to punch a wall or smash something, whereas a woman experiencing the same thing, is more likely to cry or, at least tear up and get a crack in her voice. However, there's a good chance that his behavior will be regarded as a sign of passion or emotional investment. Hers, on the other hand, is likely to be perceived as evidence of weakness or emotional instability. In theory, the same behavior should be viewed the same way, but it isn't.
